Top 50 US Craft Brewers by Sales (MAP)
You may have seen the map we created earlier this year using the data from 2007 sales, and we now present the updated version with figures for 2008 sales. Once again, to be very clear, the rankings are determined by sales of those breweries that fit the criteria: small, independent and traditional (see the Brewers Association definition of Craft Brewers here). This is not a list of the best beers, so you won't see your local monastery that receives 101 bottles from Heaven each year. We also included some interesting information regarding recent brewery openings and closings.

WTF???? Wow I guess Jiro is addicted to beer!!! LOL

lol oh no no I'm not much of a drinker but this thread is for bbbbbeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr drinkers... like PFH and Jake!

Oh...

After reading how they got the numbers... It was from sales.

Nice to know many Coloardo Breweries are in the list.

Sierra Nevada! From my old home! Woot! Woot!

But yes, as PFH points out, it's ranking by sales. Hardly a way to determine which is the best... since we all know Sierra Nevada should be #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I was gonna say you were gonna agree with me that some breweries are missing out from there... but.. strictly from sales perspective - I agree.

Some of my favorites are indeed on that list: Anderson Valley, Lagunitas, North Coast. But the absence of Mendocino Brewing Co. is quite conspicuous IMO. Also, Three Floyds from Indiana.

Then of course there are the many micro micro breweries like Russian River Brewing and Bear Republic that only do small batches but still rank in the very top on beeradvocate.com

BA is a way better site to find top breweries, since the beers are entirely user-reviewed.

Exactly.
