FanBox.com is a spam ...

I can't believe I fell in for it.... for the first time.

Hell, I'm being so caution for many years.

Okay... I know one person that is usually sent me some of her artworks and pictures at my yahoo. Until, I didn't realize that she sent me this: "http://www.fanbox.com/" in her e-mail cos the e-mail said she had a picture for me. I thought it was about her artwork picture or something else. I opened it and to see her picture but itturned the famous cartoon but I don't remember what name for that cartoon. But i didn't realize it took me to the website and it automatically signed up as a member of FanBox!

I immedately closed this account and i checked for back up and scanning... and everything....

If you see this e-mail address, "fbNOREPLY299@myfanbox.com" ... DONT CLICK IT. Mark it as a spam.

Sigh.............

Now I warned my friend who sent me an e-mail cos i don't think she realized it is a spam website she went to there.

What's more is they tend to gain access into contact list of people in hotmail or yahoo account of a person who has registered with them so they can send emails to these people over again and again.

Okay, i done with some stuff and now this scanning on my laptop...

I don't know if the spammer could look in my yahoo information or something...

what would i do? I already know what I will do with my laptop as in a case....

I feel so terrible!

If you do not sign up with the Fanbox, you do not need to worry about them. However, it is safe to scan everything to make sure that nothing serious or bad have happened to your laptop.

I received a few emails titled "Nicole has asked you a question" or something similar, about a year ago. I researched and found out they are really BAD NEWS. I have copied a short article, from: Scams: "Welcome to FanBox" - How to Cancel / Block Fanbox.com

No, when I opened an e-mail to click a picture but i didn't realized it took me to FanBox.com and automatically signed up as a member of FanBox by itself...

Well, at the least, I didn't add anything and changed a password.

1 or 2 years ago, a friend told me about FanBox....said I might wanna join??....Lucky me, I didn't becuz I had no time for another site....Later on, I did read somewhere that it was scam....and I emailed my friend to tell him...but heard nothing back....

I, too, recently changed my password!....Unusual activity on my account.....I also deactivated myself from FaceBook. Reason:??...My friends on Facebook kept getting scams about "adopting children".......And I was the only one who has adopted children!...So I know somehow a scammer got into my profile.

Yes, I got those all the time. One of buddies didn't know any better sending these cutesy emails, I knew not to open it but they still come to me its odd.

I have received some of this when my friend signed up on FanBox.com (before it was turned into a mobile thing).

Don't blame them for doing this. It was partly your friend's fault for not paying attention to the option giving her/him, if she/he wanted them to fetch her/his contact info/address book, so they could send to her/his friends to join or not. Believe me, they don't hack into your account for any reason.

Facebook, Myspace, AOL/AIM, Yahoo, Gmail and other websites are all the same though most of them don't send out repetitively like FanBox does.

It is always a good idea to have an E-mail account with nothing in the contact info/addressbook, specifically only for sites like FanBox, free offers, sweepstakes, etc.

Your friend is at fault. Fanbox will not send an email to another person unless your friend did not read the check all / uncheck or pick from list options given to you right in your face. So don't go blaming legitimate companies for lazy people who can not read.

Whoa there pardner....sounds like you have an interest in the success of FanBox. Why would a legitimate company create at least 15 variations of the "sender" address, thereby bypassing my blocking of the original address? I was getting myfanbox.com, fanbox.com, fanboxmail.com, fanboxnotes.com, and more. All these addresses were designed to force their way to my inbox. Did one of my "careless friends" create these? I think you better do your homework before making your first post a blanket blasting of members here.

As we all know, there's tons of scams and spams out there on the internet. All we can do is be cautious and use common sense. Of course, it doesn't mean that even though we are extra-cautious, it still gets through somehow to your email inbox or profiles, etc.

I'd have to say both parties are at blame because if fanbox.com or any corporates that objectively scams people, it doesn't make it right at all; and as for the other side, overlooking some simple things can also be disastrous.

It's like what the spanish proverb says - "Drink nothing without seeing it; Sign nothing without reading it."

Right. There are a few other companies with similar tactics out there. I figure that, when a website has as many detractors as FanBox, there might be something to look into. As the old saying goes, "Where there's smoke, there's fire".
