...hearing and HOH folks are AD members? I want to try something new. :ty:

you do the math. i'm HOH

You see in other (hearie) forums I have created threads where folks would record audio files of themselves- their voices. I would like to do the same here (for the benefit of the hearies and HOH on this board (only :()). I just want to know if doing so would be proper since I will be leaving some (or most- that's why I need the percentage) out of the activity. I do not know if I should proceed. Would such a thread be proper?

I am sensitive to each ones feelings before I proceeding. And I say this with respect to each one of you.

no worry. this thread isn't offensive at all. i thought that you want to calculate the percentage of HOH/Hearie out of total deaf in AD.

I do want to calculate it. You see if the percentage results in that the majority is either hearing or HOH then the decision to do the thread is more likely. But again, even then there would be many left out. It can be a disrespectful thread. Understand? That's the issue. If most on this current thread says to go for it, then I will do it.

I recall there was other thread that did polling exactly like this. I don't know where is it... it was from last year.

Well you see this is my voice (on another day and time). Now how many can actually hear it on this forum? I feel bad leaving anyone out.

dang it... i got some error page from yahoo. i'll check back later after my dinner. sit tight! :cool2:

So wait a sec, I'm not following..
What's going on?

Percentage of actual users that are HoH and/or deaf on alldeaf.com?
Voice err what? What's recorded sound files got to do with this?

The percentage is gonna get kinda skewed, because the active userbase probably makes up about.. doing quickie math here

let's see, 23,936 registered users according to frontpage.

variables that influence the percentage
a) a spammer 3 days average, and more have started popping up recently as of one year+ ago. so that makes about ~100ish (.04% of the actual users). feels like it would be more, though.
b) active unique users (like alex, me, jiro, botti, etc, people who are commoners that show up frequently, and post frequently) is probably likely to about ~150ish per every 2 days.
c) active unique users that are registered but are not HH/deaf - terps, docs, job guys, salesmen, BF/GF/spouse/etc of a HH/deaf or all else probably another good chunk.. I would randomly guessimate they make no more than 30%
d) guests, people who are registered but do not visit the site anymore or lurk make up over 40% of the registered member database easily. the exact percentage is probably around 40-60% of the registered base.

not sure if I'm missing anymore varibles. this seems to really make up the site.

This would leave you around ~8k-9k of people to poll, this percentage only including people who:
a) commoners
b) non-deaf or non-HH
c) members who visit every now and then (by this I mean probably spend no more than 2 hours a month)

I could not access your voice AquaBlue. I would need to sign up for Huddle?

Not at home at the moment. I only have a laptop and am profoundly deaf in one ear and severely hoh in the other.

I am willing to try to record for your project if someone tells me how.

When I get home I will try to check the voice you did and see if I can hear anything.

Just home and got the link to work.

Saw a little dot go across the blue screen, but could not hear anything.

I assume that was it and I just could not hear it . Sorry.

Just out of curiosity, how come you want to record our voices?

Another factor, naisho, is CI users.

Yeah, I'm still not getting it. I re-read the thread again and I still don't understand what's the voice recording have to do with anything.

Any other if you guys care to explain?

Try it now. I just fixed it.

I just downloaded it. I had to put my volume at maximum. I hear you talking abut I don't know what you're saying. I need to read lips though....

Couldn't download it.

Anyhow, I'm assuming Aqua wants for other hearies (and perhaps HOH and those deaf but wear hearing aids) on this forum to be able to hear what other posters' voices (here on AD) sound like. I've heard of other forums doing this. This is what this came across as to me but I'm not sure it's entirely appropriate here, however. JMO.

I got aquablue's voice downloaded, but I haven't listened to it yet. Right click the following link and click "Save As" to save it to your computer. Or you can open it from clicking, doesn't matter.
Aquablue's Voice

I see, thanks for the clarification Alley. I've never participated in such a thing so the whole concept is new to me.

you have a nice broadcaster's voice, aquablue! very clear and distinct. smile.

jiro,

aquablue said the following:

"hello everyone. this is colin (?). aka "aquablue." it's friday, january 23, 2009. i hope your day goes well. my day's just starting. it's 9:11am down here in miama, florida."

did i hear you right, aquablue?

Thanks Naisho for the help on getting to hear that link.

I listened to it and it certainly seems as if Hear_Again is right. The part where you (Hear_Again) put a (?) I had difficulty with as well, but the rest of it was clear as a bell.
