i don't like my signature either. i used to have a very nice signature, but ever since developing severe cts in my left hand (my dominant hand), my signature is completely unreadable. because of that (and the pain i experience when writing), i'm thinking about getting a signature stamp.

You have had mail from me. You know what my handwriting looks like. I am not crazy about my handwriting.

Computer communication is a great thing for me as people can read what I say.

My signature is illegible...on purpose. Makes it more difficult for someone to forge.

My handwriting was decent once upon a time, but grad school, notetaking, and doing everything digitally has taken care of that! You can read it, but barely.

I can draw beautifully, but my handwriting is horrible. My dad used to yell at me all the time for my bad penmanship and my bad signature. He would go over my homework each night to make sure that all my handwriting is neat and that my name is written in neatly and in full, no nicknames allowed. If there is something he does not like, he would make me do it all over again. I can write okay if I try very very very hard, but it takes a LOT of effort, and it hurts my hand. For some reason, drawing doesn't hurt my hands, but writing does. But he doesn't care about that, he demands that my handwriting be perfect and neat. He and his wife even told me that I would never get into college with the kind of handwriting and the kind of signature I have. They said that colleges would not accept students with messy handwriting and signatures, that they would only take students with neat and nice handwriting and signatures. **** him, he's an asshole.

Now, my handwriting is messy, and I refuse to put any extra effort in making it look neat, I will only make enough effort for it to be readable by others if it is for others to read, and I refuse to make my signature look beautiful and neat. It is just a scribble now. As long as it shows that it is MY signature, that is all that matters. **** what people thinks of my handwriting and my signature.

My fiance ordered me some ink for my printer, and as soon as I get the ink and have it put into my printer, everything I write is going to be typed from now on. That way no one can complain about my writing. Typing is easier for me than writing is, anyway. And then everyone can just kiss my ass.

He's also wrong! Colleges don't give a damn about what your handwriting looks like, but they do care about artistic talent.

Hmm...I wonder if maybe it doesn't hurt your hand to draw because you use a different motion and grip than you do when writing. I do some chalk pastels, and I know my grip is looser, and the motion comes more from my wrist and my shoulder. It's just a freer motion than when I'm writing, you know what I mean?

Yeah, I do hold my drawing pencils and other drawing materials differently while drawing than I do when I write. So, that makes sense.

And yeah, he just likes to verbally abuse me and my sister whenever he likes to.

alot of blind and visually impaired people use them. when i was in blind rehab, one of my instructors recommended i use one, but i didn't feel the need to since i could sign my name.

as for my cts and the problems it causes with writing, i could always get away with signing my name as a letter "x." i know some congenitally totally blind people who do that because they haven't learned how to write in cursive or print.

Just wondering, not meant to be insulting, but I am curious as to how did you learn how to write since you have been totally blind all your life? Just purely curious.

My signature sux. I am not very good with jointed writing, because I prefer to print my words.

no problem, lucia.

i learned how to write when i was 5 by using a braille primer that had raised tactile formations of letters. most braille primers have examples of raised capital and cursive lettering at the beginning of the book.

in 11th grade, i also learned how to use an opticon which is a device that converts print letters into a tactile image and vibration that is felt on the tip of one's finger.

you can read more about the opticon here:

I am still confused about the opticon. I read the descriptions on the website you provided, but I am still rather confused. I tried to find a picture of the opticon I couldn't. Pictures would really help me a lot.

let me see if i can describe what the opticon looks like. it consisted of 2 pieces -- a handheld camera and a small base which contained several pins that moved up and down to form each letter.

there is a newer device called the videotim that is similar to the opticon. it might help give you some idea of what the opticon looked like:

I don't like that every deaf-blind equitments are very expensive. Did you get donating money for them from club organizations like Lion's club, Rotary's. etc?

my telebraille (braille tty) was paid for by my state's telephone assistance program in 1995.

my screen reader (window-eyes) and braille display (braille star 40) were both paid for by vocational rehabilitation.

my alertmaster 6000 with vibrating pager was also paid for by vocational rehabilitation.

Sound like he wanted a perfect daughter.....and everything must be in perfect...**** it! I don't have a great handwriting either... It's not true that college won't accept anyone with messy handwriting...I've seen college professor have some messy handwriting, so what's the point? If I don't understand, I always ask what do you say on this or that! I try not to make any messy on piece of paper when I ask for something or order food etc.
