Google Street View

Didn't you know that google Street view is now available on google.com maps?

Google Maps

You can eventually find your house in 3D yourself. Some random people find random photos where house is on fire, people flashing their breasts, people walking in scuba suits.... and a dude lying on the grass, drunk.

Weird, isn't it?

The one thing that I don't like about the on-line maps is that they are so out of date. I'm going to CT next week, and I tried to find a relative's house on the map, and it doesn't even show their street. They've lived in that house at least eight years but it's not on the maps yet. Same thing for my daughter's house. It's not on any maps. Another friend's house--not on the maps. Many of the streets in our town aren't listed at all. They aren't on the street views or satellite views or bird's eye views--nothing. When I use the ariel view the places where their houses and streets are supposed to be are undeveloped woods with no paved roads. The maps are not current. It's very frustrating.

Not everything is updated. It depends on the location.

My area was updated a few months ago.

Not really. Also, it's not just my town but several others in this tri-county area, plus my relatives who live in another state. I guess the map makers just can't keep up with the changes.

I have known about street view. I use it to scout houses in local to determine the landmarks to find what I am looking for.

I once saw airplane NWA on satellite picture. Amazing to accidentally find one.

Why not make a game out of it. Try locate something like that is odd. Street view or anything.

Yeah I notice my property on the map is not updated if viewed on satellite, the land should have been split up already since 2005, before I bought this property.

Yeah, it's also fun to see things that's unusual.

I saw one where a van was passing by this woman who tried to flash her boobs at it. Failed.

Not every year, only when they feel it's necessary. If it's a place that doesn't change for a long time, they won't update it.

Usually, it's every few years... likely 5 years.

Here are a few interesting links.

Wow very freaky with 3D picture. I had a look at my home. At least it doesn't give out the correct address number. By the look of the picture it looks like it been taken around about March to June 2008.

I found my home on this, but I had to go up the street about fifteen numbers to find it. They have the addresses wrong in my neighborhood.

Searching for my parents' address gives a street with a similar name in the wrong county. Searching for mine gives the nearest end of the street near the pizza place.

They have Street View in my parents' town but not on their road because it's a dead end dirt road in the country. There is no Street View in Vermont yet. If you zoom out with Street View on, it shows blue areas where it's covered. It should be interesting to watch how the coverage expands.

There's a little bit in Alaska around Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau, some in France and a bit in Italy near France. In Japan, there is some coverage around Sendai, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe. In Australia, it's on the eastern and western coasts and a bit in the center.

That birds eye view thing is cool. better than google. but it only works in some areas. Not back in the country of Idaho where I grew up though lol.

Are you referring to Street View or Satellite View?

If it's Street View, then they focus on the major cities. I don't know if they will do the smaller cities. After all, there are thousands of cities out there.
