Angry Has anyone been FORCED to go to an IME??

IME is an acronym for Independent Medical Exam.

Insurance companies use these "independent" "medical" "professionals" to "examine" claimants to make a favorable report for Insurance companies to close a claim. I put all of these words in quotations as, every descriptor is false an a scam.

I had one today related to a car accident in December, which messed up my left shoulder. I can't sleep on my left side, carry groceries up my stairs without pain or travel by car or plane comfortably, just to name a few issues.

I left the exam with more pain than when I went in with. The "Dr." made be preform tests that I advised that were painful, over and over again. They also asked defaming and leading questions which questioned by ingetrity and honesty.

Has anyone had experiences with an IME?

I case you could tell, I'm pissed. Medcial professionals, regardless of whom they're contracted by should NOT hurt patients.

Thanks,

Alicia

I agree. It's total bullshit. I realize that there are people who abuse the system, but I'm not one of them.

I work hard, pay my bills and just increased my benefits!

I'm outraged and feel defamed.

And top it all off, one of my HA batteries died mid-"exam"

if you feel that strongly about it, get a lawyer. Otherwise theres not much you can u can do except suck it up. Change insurance policies or something. Cant really think of another alternative.

Just because the doctor is "independent" doesn't mean that he is "unbiased". Tell the insurance company that you will be happy to go for an "independent medical evaluation" but the doctor will be of your choosing, not theirs.
