Driveway Preferences?

What kind of driveway do you have?

What kind of driveway do you prefer? Why?

Here are some example driveways...

- behind from the alley into the garage (or without garage)
- from the front to the right into the garage
- from the front straight into the garage
- from the front along the side of the house without a garage
- from the front along the side of the house around the back to the left into the garage

I'm sure there are other ways.

The one I have is the one that goes from the front to the right into the garage. I used to live in a house where you drove from the front straight into the garage. The house before that was behind from the alley into a shed instead of a garage.

If all the driveways I've had in the past, I prefer the one that goes from the front straight into the garage. The one that goes from the front to the right into the garage is nice because it holds more cars if you have more visitors, but that will likely not be needed until I have kids who are older or something.

I know that there are some people who can't drive in reverse very well, especially when it comes to parking a car or backing out of a parking space. So, they have specific preferences because of that.

from the front straight into the garage

plain and simple! and quick too! That was my previous abode. Right now - I live at apt with parking garage. It sucks to take 2 elevators just to get to my car...

From the street straight to the open double carport attached to a suburban house.

(At present, we have 6 cars ... Hubby/mine - 2, daughter - 1, son - 3. Son is selling one of them and the other one is company van).

I call it the runway, the driveway extends onto both front and back roads. I love a good accelerating start!

Front straight to the garage. But that garage is kinda blank and we have other two sheds, we don't have so many things to be in garage or sheds..

I am very sorry that I haven't been around here lately because I went up to Puyallup State Fair working with my parents, and then I decided to go to Yakima Fair with my parents to work more, somehow when I came back and discovered that my computer had collasped. So I won't be using the computer as often as I was used to.

Thanks everyone

I want my garage to be in the back of the house...I can't stand to see the driveway in the front of the house because there are so many driveways that have oil spots and tire marks on them - looks ugly. It takes forever to keep the driveway looking presentable.

Plus I'm terrible at driving backwards from the garage to the street.

Right now I'm living in an apartment complex, which is weird for me because I'm so used to living in a house. I have a parking area assigned - but it is between two poles it is next to the garbage bin. It is a little out of my way from my apartment. And dangerous, because you really can't see if someone is nearby the bin because they have a small building that covers the bin. I have a Chrysler Pacifica (and I'm only 5 feet tall) so it is very hard for me to squeeze my car between the poles...so I never used my parking space. I simply use the visitor's parking - which happens to be directly in front of my apartment. (SHHHHHH!)

I have an attached garage at one end of the house. The driveway leads straight from the street to the garage. It's not my favorite look but it's convenient.

Where I live now does not have a garage -- I park next to the house. There is an UGLY carport (not mines) next to where I park takes up the spaces.

I am the same way. I rather for the garage to be in the back of the house - it looks a lot better and more private that way. Maybe it is just me - I have noticed that newer houses with garages in the back are hard to find nowadays.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think it is easier and cheaper to build the garages up front because of the way the streets are nowdays (more crowded, houses are back to back) whereas in a smaller town, the house can be sitatuated in between two streets or have enough room for the car to drive around the house and go out the front.

Mine is from street to garage but we don't park our SUVs in garage (it is only 1 garage, sucks though). We are planning to expand a bit in our drive way so we can park and not so close to each other. My hubby's motorcycle usually park front of our Jeeps and in wintertime he don't use motorcycle, he put it in garage till spring time. Our drive is similar to Reba's.

Yeah. If it was a busy street, I'd prefer an alley. If it was a private street, then I'd prefer a from-the-front approach.

With busy streets, it's hard to back up unless you backed up when you came home.

Yeah, I noticed that. I don't know what happened. It wasn't like that before. I'll check my settings later.

We park the van and Hubby's Jeep inside the garage. My Jeep parks outside.

I am with u on that one about the garage. My neighborhood is an historical one so many of the houses here have a separate garage in the back. It is so cool because i grew up in suburbia Phx where all the houses had garages and driveways in the front. I think the garage or driveway in the back adds character.

As for my house..I dont have a driveway, we have to park on the street. My hubby wants to build a driveway on the side of the house. I am not sure if I am thrilled with the idea. Maybe I can talk to him about a garage in the back. I dont know how that will work...hmm

Normally we don't have a pile of brush at the end of it. It's there until the city picks it up Tuesday.
