I just editted my forum a bit but I noticed a thread, Coffee Table Books, in the Stories section and I did not remember why I put it right there long a time.

Anybody else will tell me what's "Coffee Table Books" about again?

Thanks ~

If you're talking about coffee table books in general, it would be books that aren't too boring... but something that anyone can pick up, glance through, and get the "full" experience from part of it.

A book with a collection of short stories would be good. Anyone could pick it up, read through a one-page short story, and put it down knowing they read something all the way. It's like a magazine in the doctors' offices. Anyone can pick up a magazine (based on if the cover is appealing) and read one article before putting it back down.

If I had a coffee table, a few books that I would put on there would be Guinness Book of World Records and Uncle John's Bathroom Reader. :)

I place my awesome photography book on coffee table so they can see what I'm interest.

I can't imagine if anyone leave the porn magazine on there. haha

If I saw a porn magazine left on a coffee table, I'd be afraid to touch it. Who knows what the previous reader did while reading it last time!

A coffee table book is usually a large, hard-covered, attractive book that is left on a coffee table partly for decoration, partly for browsing. They usually include lots of pictures. Common topics for the books are art and history.

I have a full collection of short jokes cut out from magazines and I am in the process of trying to find ways to beautify it into a showpiece, to use as a coffee table book. I think it would be a real conversation starter. :)

If that's the case, I'd fall asleep right there on the spot... proving that my host is boring. ;)

Oh wow. I totally forget about this thread!! Shit. lol

But, thank you for answering my question. :) I will keep that mind.

If your host is present, you will chatting with the host, not browsing their books.

I love browsing coffee table books. There's usually several tables full of them near the front of Barnes and Noble.

I have a stack of them under my coffee table in the living room. They are about historical Charleston area, Civil War battles, and local pirates. Out of town visitors like to browse them.

If the host is not in the room, then I would keep myself occupied by skimming through the book.

However, if the book was so boring... I might fall asleep on the spot.

Then, the host will return and I'm screwed. ;)

For coffee table books? Not really. I just recommend you personally browse thru your choices first. If they interest you, they will probably also interest your friends. :)

Those are good subjects.

That's the key. Whatever is interesting to you and your friends. The other important aspect is good production quality of the books (interesting content, clear pictures, good quality paper and sturdy covers).

Well, I hope your host doesn't leave you alone for every long. :P

Here's what they look like:

You could make your own. There's several websites that let you make your own books (both hardcover and softcover.) Blurb (Make your own book with Blurb) is one such website. Submit your favorite collection of photos, stories you've written, whatever. I've done this and it's awesome to have my own books of photography I've done. (Note: I'm not endorsing Blurb, just stating an example.)

we have mosly magazines on our table such as Outdoor Life, Southern Living, Ducks Unlimited, Backpacker, All You, etc. Im thinking books though would be better. They are not so dated like magazines are. Who is really interested in a magazine from a year ago?
