Nice idea but you can not do that way. Against the law unless it goes one way or the other: charge membership OR register with S.E.C. as a public company and deaf people can buy stocks. Trouble is, sir, that relay company will buy a half million dollars worth of stocks. They will become the majority stockholder and rights to be on the board of directors. Usually the founders are kicked off the company's board of directors. It has happened to Steve Jobs when they fired him, or Edgar Hetten who left in disgust with the board at Polaris (snowmobiles) Industries back in 1969 and started Arctic Cat. Also it has happened to the founder of Carl's Jr. Restaurant and he did not like being kicked out so he had a proxy takeover.

Alex, becareful with that part. Usually a proxy takeover in court the founders lose. That is the problem.

April's fool? Nah. This sound serious.

You really are from a galaxy far, far away. Around here, 500K after taxes is just a down payment on a house. A house with no yard, much less a swimming pool. And there won't be anything left for a Porsche or a trip to Europe.

They prolly want the site because it has a lot of members and they can sell space on the existing site to advertisers... I personally think $500,000 is a lowball bid though. Of course Alex, you could sell to the same clientele the relay company could/would sell too. It's like renting or selling a house...if you rent it (i.e. get your own advertisers) you get a monthly income, if you sell the house; you get the one lump sum... Good Luck, you're in a good position!!

From the little I know of u, Alex, u come across as a very intelligent man so I don't feel I need to give u my opinion on what u shud do. Everyone is different and will react differently when presented an opportunity like this. Only advice I can give to u is take some other ADers' advice about talking it over with lawyers and other people experienced with these kinds of opportunities and most important of all..follow your heart.

I love AD and iam so happy that my friend told me about it back in Fall cuz I feel I learned a lot about different things. My only wish it would remain the same regardless if u sell it or not with the same mods.

Dude, if its not a joke do seek professional advice and do what you have to do. Your heart is in the right place to pilot AD and you can always start another forum else where. I support whatever you decide that money doesn't appear everyday.

Hypothecially you sell your business to the relay service, deaf people will more likely just use the relay, not the forum. Like Google is just a search engine, or IBM a computer business. Or FALSO CREATIVITY is a design firm. Google may owns YouTube.com but we all do not think that way. If that relay service drops the domain name or change it to relay, then the deaf might get confused. alldeaf.com has been established as a deaf forum. That other service called Deafchat.com is for chat room and most of us know that for a fact. That is my point here. You have a reputation and a good one to provide us a forum to discuss any issues of the day.

There is another factor they may not said it in here. Deaf people might find out who is that service and may not like that service so they may not want to come back and establish another deaf forum or forums! That could reduce the number of members. It ususally happens in many businesses.

Please think it over or even pray if you have to. I do not know your religion but it doesnt hurt to try! Look over all factors. NOT about the money. OK?

Remember, from a deaf business man to another deaf business man.

You hit all the right notes on that one. Alex would need to think about how this buyout will more or less benefit Alex in long term.

For example: Remember Penn Can Mall? Remember it was thriving under Eagan Properties, Inc. in the 1970's through the 1980's until they sold it to Wilmorite Properties only because they thought Wilmorite would do a better job with the mall but look what happened! It went under! This is a good analogy I can think of for you, UpstatNYDesigner to understand.

With that said, I hope Alex considers how this will benefit him so what happened to Penn Can Mall not happen to alldeaf.com
