Tinnitus
How's everybody doing? Looks like I haven't been on this forum for a super long time and I'm doing so so.
I notice that I'm getting tinnitus a bit frequent lately, does that mean anything? Is it normal? I do have hard of hearing but not deaf. I can listen to people talk. I own a motorcycle and have been riding for a year now and I know that the wind noise can get as loud as 115dB but I wear ear plugs with a noise reduction of 32dB. I'm just worried about my hearing. Don't want it to get worst. Sometimes tinnitus happens after I ride (I wear earplugs) and sometimes not. So what's going on?? |

It can mean many things. A reaction to certain medicines, food allergies??, noise overload, and of course, actual physical hearing issues amongst other things. Basically, the answer is who knows.
Having said that, it is something to be concerned about as something is going on in your cochlea (that is where the tinnitus is coming from). There isn't a whole lot one can do but I recommend you do some googling on it and check out some of the possible things that can cause it and things you can do that might help you out. Then, there is always the ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat specialist) who could find a reason for it especially physicalogically.

I'm hearing, and I had HORRIBLE tinnitus when I was being treated for an infection several months ago.
Anybody ever heard of gentamycin or vancomycin? I was on both of these for two really severe bone/wound infections . I recovered from the infections, and the tinnitus went away after the course of antibiotics was done with, but OMG!!! I thought I had a hundred church bells going off in my head AT ONCE. It was NOT pleasant. But, given the choice of either dealing with short term tinnitus or dying from the infections, I'd take the tinnitus. |

You know...I've been on the forum since Mar '04, and I've NEVER seen any of the deafies on here say that. In fact, many on here are proud to be deaf. You can get off your pity pot. I don't feel sorry for you. |

Ive had tinnitus on and off for 20 years and its incurable, sorry. Im hard of hearing. Ive learned to live with it even though at times, it drives me nuts. For me, it gets worse when Im stressed out over something.
![]() Go see ENT and if its very bad tinnitus like you really cannot stand it, the doctor will recommend tinnitus masking devices or suggest how to make noises so the tinnitus fades into the background of noise. Good luck.
