Have you tried to contact a Deaf Service Center in your area to ask them if they know of any counselors for the deaf?

Well.....I do know that depression is very common among the dhh population. One thing that really helped me was learning to accept my disabilty as a part of myself. I grew up seeing my hearing loss as an "impairment"......a barrier to sucess, rather then as part of myself, that I could adapt to. That's why I find the Deaf culture so cool. It's something FUN and unique....it also helps with relationship skills b/c we don't have to worry about how hearing people will perceive us due to our voice etc. You know, I kinda wish I'd majored in psychlogy so I could be a counselor to the dhh population.....I really do think that a lot of oral and mainstreamed kids tend to be really emoitionally fucked up due to bad experiances, and that's a population that is underserved.
