So called Ennuchs in the Ancient World
Ennuchs are generally neutered men (chopped off dick) according to today's definition.
Having a strong interest in history especially ancient Egypt and Greece's, I stumbled by this interesting theory online. This guy with the theory obviously researched his stuff very thoroughly. It was very interesting! His thesis: The ancient ennuchs actually weren't castrated. Just gay. Here is the synposis online: http://www.well.com/user/aquarius/#Home%202 The whole research and supporting evidence: http://www.well.com/user/aquarius/contents.htm Also for those of you who are lesbian and bi women who felt left out.. no fear!! http://www.well.com/user/aquarius/almah.htm

Whoa, a lot to digest at this time of the morning for me!
![]() In my history class in high school, we were taught that homosexuality did exist in ancient Greek and Roman times. Some older male professors liked the idea of their young male students as sexual objects and pursued sexual relations with them. Emperors had their own male lovers, and that was deemed as acceptable. These so-called "heterosexual" men were viewed as heterosexual anyway because they had wives and children. They hated real homosexuals because they had no lust in women. After the fall of the Roman and Greek civilisation, Christianity came to existence, and it condemned all the homosexual activities. Incidentially, I do know that in Africa, some men engage in homosexual sex and it is viewed as normal or as a part of their lifestyle. I'll have to read it all later on when I am not tired! Thanks Liza for the interesting info. Last edited by kuifje75; 05-07-2003 at 05:25 AM. |

Thanks Kuifje! I was thinking of you when I posted this I think it is so interesting... and would make sense, but I'd like your thoughts are you are done digesting the material

Not their dick, it was their balls. If you lop off a guy's member then he can't even pee! Alot of times they did it to opera singers, they called the Castrati (hence the english word castrate) and this would keep their body from producing the testosterone it would take to make their voices drop and so they would sing in a high soprano forever. They would also grow very tall and thin. I know that the castrati were allowed to have sex with whomever they wanted and whenever they wanted, man or woman, because after they were castrated, they were no longer consitered to be male or female by other people.
In greek the word "eunuch" means enue, "bed," and echein, "to have charge of" refers to the eunuch's traditional role as a harem keeper. That would make complete sense to me that eunuchs were just gay men. I mean, Greece was known for it's gay population. But since Eunuchs are technically able to get an erection and have sex, I would think that one would be better off having a gay man watch his harem whores than a guy who believes he is entitled to sex whenever he wants from whomever he wants! Brilliant thought, Liza, I'd never even thought of that before. Good luck on that paper. |

I remember reading somewhere that they did it b/c women were thought of as the lowest of the low. Men weren't encouraged to have sex with them, and thus the population almost died out. |
