Let's think about it.

A) We all like to debate about which phone companies are the best. What if Verizon was the only phone company available? I would imagine many people won't have a cell phone because they won't be able to afford Verizon's hefty phone bill. You will then have difficult time reaching your friend(s) who doesn't want to pay for Verizon service.

B) Every vehicles will have turbocharged engine. You cannot get a vehicle that isn't turbocharged. There will be many people off the road because they don't want to feel the power of turbo. They may be scared of driving fast or getting in a fast car with someone that cannot control the power of turbo. There will be many companies that will have to fold. Who would want to drive a Smart Car with turbocharged engine? That would be a death trap!!!

C) The only type of cat food you can get is 9Lives. What if there are cats that would prefer Friskies cat food? You can imagine that they would go on a hunger strike until they can have choice of type of cat food to eat.

So....it's good to have options, right??

My cats would murder me if I tried to feed them 9 lives or Friskies... :laugh2: Good thing the cat food isle has like 20 cat food options, right? :P

Of course it's good to have options! :P Sometimes, there are too many options though.... like when you go to IHOP for breakfast at 3am and can't decide what you want to eat because they have 800 things to choose from... :P :D

Then you think with your mind instead of your stomach... :( Then your stomach is sad because you try to eat it all... :(

I hope that cats don't get overwhelmed with those 20+ choices of food to pick. Maybe they like it because it shows them that they're kings and queens. They need this much food to strut their stuffs!!! It would be just purrrrfect for them!!!

It's only good to have options if there is fair competition in the marketplace. As you may well know, we don't have a truly capitalistic or socialistic economy, we have a hybrid controlled by a political system. Because of this, there are a lot unfair practices between companies which hurt consumers. The phone service was a lot cheaper when it was a natural monopoly because it was regulated. Today, Verizon, Comcast, etc will charge you for mobile, land line phone, cable and internet, all going through the same wire.

Options are only good if you are satisfied with the base product and consider the options extra. Otherwise, you're going to pay a lot more for those options, think BMW. And, companies like it that way because they make more money.

This reminds me of a Married with Children episode when AL goes to buy a new car. He ask the car salesman about a wooden shifter knob. The sales person then asked his coworker how much the knob cost and the coworker replies, "50 cents". The sales person then tells Al it will cost him $50. That's how options work.

I would not drive a smartcar period , I think they're a deathtrap. And with winter we just had a smartcar would had been buried in snow and a plow truck would end up plowing right into it.

If you don't have options on which company or brand to choose, it's a monopoly and that is bad.

This is why I try to shop at smaller stores and not Wal Mart . I do not only want end up having only Wal Mart to shop at, I can't stand that store.

It is good to have options.

It is also good to have favorite options that retain what was good about them.

When I was a cross country runner I got to see running shoes get really good. Then I got to see them change lots of times. Every year. Slowly the price for the quality running shoes went over a hundred dollars. I liked American made running shoes. New Balance last I bought still makes a top of the line running shoe here in the US. None others. Every year they changed the style. Very frustrating.

There are so many examples of something good being turned into something less good while the price goes up. It is up to us consumers to
make ourselves heard.
It has been my observation that making ourselves heard when it works is often another excuse to make things look better but be worse. Often it turns into a new layer of profit making at our expense. This has become a cultural norm. Cultural norms can be changed for the better. Better for us.

Does this mean you are going to paint some bikes pink for the helplessly pink out there?

I wear New Balance sneaker b/c they had a lot of room for your toes but each the year their quality get lower . It's very frustrating not being to buy good quality sneakers, you have to pay more $$$ for crappy sneakers .
We only have one shoes store in my city , we have K Mart and Marshall's but
K Mart shoes are crappy and Marshall's only sell women shoes for looks .
