Being deaf and other deaf call you hearing.

Im severe to profound deaf and oral ,i speak read lips and wear pne hearing aid.im going blind as well do to glocoma a nd nysthagmas ,and brain issue cause blindness...as well so i guess im deaf/blind .been going to hknc for traing and things like that im now using asl but a slow alot of finger spelling .cant see all signs i have tunel vision so my Deaf boy friends saids im hearing i speak with my kids alot ,and use caption call phone with my hearing aids.i also use vp with deaf friends...why dose he call me hearing ?
 
Probably becuz you can speak....?....I speak while signing and have had other deafies asking me if I was hearing....

did he signs his finger above his forehead as hearing to you?
 
Guess it sort of surprises him that he didn't know that you can speak. maybe he didn't understand what you were talking to your children. some deaf people get annoyed about not to know what you are talking to your kids. BUT I am not there, howeve I am under the impression that he didn't know you can speak.

Because they would like to think they are in an exclusive club. It would be impolite to shatter their dream.

I would not lose any sleep over it if I were you. Just keep learning and do the best you can. Negative people don't matter.

Explain to your boyfriend that some people know how to floor gas pedal better to get more out of their turbos than others.

Just like you get a better use of hearing aids than many others. Life goes on.

Because he loves labels. The deaf, more than anyone in my experience, have to give you a name and put you in a box so they can relate to you. I know it's hard but try to ignore people that act like that....there's no figuring them out....and I find that the labels are more for them than the people they think they're referring to...

On the other hand, he does not accept your disabilities like deafness and blindness. That is my opinion. I don't know what it is like at your home. :(
 
Im up now posting kids are home,there still sleeping ok he signs hearing with his finger go over his mouth, in a rolling motion.i just dont understand im not hearing lol .im deaf and he my boy friend calls his hoh duaghter hearing too.i sign and talk at the same time.i like totle communication i dont care deafblind ,hearing ,hoh, deaf ,Deaf.just respect peoples mode of commication ,i have to sign cclose to people and some signs i miss unel vision .i need calm people deal with me.

Interesting, maybe it does bother him. Try to talk to him as to why he call you that provokes you..

Sometimes my hub speaks to our kids, and i remind him that im here. He then signs to kids in front of our kids.
 
Relative of my wife said the same thing to me....I told him that it was better than being stupid. (I pointed at him while saying that)
 
Just let u know i told him how i feel he said sorry,i told him i dont hear everything people if i did.i would need caption call phone or ,any vp vco .im deaf and that it im a talker thats it.love me for me.
 
Does the fact that one can "hear" thanks to their Cochlear Implant-make one a "hearie"?
To me-no! I have stated many times- I am bilateral DEAF-which will never change in my lifetime.
aside: I do "hear" thanks to the Cochlear Implant which is, what I expected.
