Hello, I'm an ASL student and I am trying to learn as much as I can about the Deaf Culture. Please, anyone Deaf or Hard of Hearing, tell me what it is you like about the Deaf Culture and Community. I have read about many things that we hearing people have done to offend so many out there; and I am truly sorry if I shared any part of that. I would certainly never want to offend anyone or their culture. Thanks in advance for sharing!

Hi Jessica: As you probably noticed here- there are variety of opinions- re "deaf culture". No offense to anyone- just reality. As you can surmise goes back in time to Cochlear Implants. Use OR refuse. Ones choice-if suitable.

aside: as a bilateral DEAF person since 2007- I don't recall being "oppressed at any time in my life". I am 76 at the moment.

All this "deaf culture" is an ongoing discussion in Sociology-culture. Never boring!

I enjoy telling people about my deaf ferret, Bob.

Sadly he died.

Deaf or not, I like to talk about the novel idea of teaching cats to clap.
