Switched at birth TV show.

I know there are a few threads about SAB. But I created this thread becasue I am curious about you all on this forum.

Have you seen this show especially last night March 4th only??


I have never watched this show until last night. My friends made me so. Now I understand why, that show has no voices, just ASL all the way.
 
Last night was the first time ever too for me that I watched it. I wasn't overwhelmingly impressed. But anyway I think normally the shows are not all ASL. Last night was. That's why there was a big promo about it.
 
I'm not sure about SAB. Last night was my very first time watching it. Nice, but like AlleyCat, I wasn't overly impressed. Yeah, it promotes ASL, but I'm under impression that it targets high school and maybe new college students. Not the ideal show for a 35 years old guy. Yeah, it does a good job with ASL promotion. I'll give them credit.

Also, I saw the Purple ad. I don't have that many deaf friends. They didn't explain benefits of Purple. For me, I'm content with my Sorenson VP 200. It's not enough to just say "Purple is cool. Go for it". You have to tell audience why it's special.

I bet many people looked at this. "Purple is cool. Ok. Fine."
 
I haven't watched any of those shows, but I am curious: Do the actors act like real-world deaf ASL users, or do they act like "hearing people trying to act deaf"? (if you know what I mean...)
 
They all are young. I only know two who are asl users and others i can see their native asl that i assume they are real. But some of them dont sign natural which i wasnt sure if they were either late deaf or hoh or hearing. Im sure there have comments online somewhere.
 
There are many native ASL users on the show (particularly 4 of the main characters - Daphne, Emmett, Melody and Travis as well as the majority of students at Carlton). The rest of the characters who sign are learning ASL slowly as the show goes on - in the show they are hearing family members who began learning sign when a deaf family member (Daphne) entered into their lives.I hope this very brief explanation helps :).
 
Thanks, Journey. I was told to watch it. I watched it once because of no voices. I dont know each of their names but i did catch up with their names/characters. ha
 
I watched it and I wished I could have been in the Deaf school myself too. But now I am old woman. Dang!!!! It is good to see the Deaf Signers wanting to save their Deaf School because of the hearing program which they are saying they will bring more hearing students in the Deaf school. It will be like the mainstream school all over again. Also the Board voted to close the Carlton School for the Deaf. That is why they are protesting it. Take back Carlton. Take back Carlton. Yay!!!!! I could hardly wait to see the next episode. :D
 
Well, if Frisky is in on the show I guess I'll have to check it out. I'll check if Netflixs has it.
 
There will be the final Spring episode of Switched At Birth on March 11, 2013. I do hope we will have more Switched At Birth episodes this coming Fall. Fingers cross to have Carlton School for the Deaf back in operations without adding more hearing students. We want Deaf teachers in the classrooms. I hope the protest went well next Monday. :fingersx:
