Chocolate Helps Improve Blood Flow Reduce Heart Disease

Chocolate Helps Improve Blood Flow Reduce Heart Disease
August 30, 2004

Eating dark chocolate may not leave you with the feeling of guilt anymore. Greek researchers say they have evidence that shows chocolate improves the function of blood vessels, which in turn helps prevent dangerous blood clots and can help to reduce heart disease

However, don't plan a daily meal of chocolate because the researchers warn the weight gain from eating too much chocolate would cancel out the benefit.

Researchers presented their findings at the annual meeting of the European Society of Cardiology in Germany over the weekend.

The study conducted by Greek researchers involved 17 volunteers who ate 100 grams of dark chocolate. A control group ate a non-chocolate substitute.

Researchers used ultrasound to measure the effect on blood flow and they found improved function of the endothelial cells in the arteries for about three hours after the volunteers had eaten the chocolate.

Good news for chocolate lover like myself!

I have heard this is true of dark chocolate ONLY! Dark chocolate is said to make the arteries more elastic. While eating milk chocolate tends to clog the arteries.

As for chocolate cravings, I'm someone who DOESN'T get the usual cravings associated with "that time of the month". During "my time", I tend to crave pasta. LOL So, FOR ME, hold the chocolate and give me spaghetti! LOTS OF spaghetti!!! LOLOLOL

I can only eat a small portion of chocolate due to my allergic reaction to chocolate.

Thank you, M'Lady!

I'm actually not big on chocolate in general. I can really take it or leave it! Don't get me wrong...Alittle of it is fine, but I really prefer vanilla over chocolate. That's just me!!

But, I can't live without my pasta!! LOL

No, I'm not. Actually, I'm of German decent. I believe this also encompasses the Pennsylvania Dutch...And, DO they love their starch! So, you see, Dearheart, I DON'T have to be a purebred Italian to love my pasta!! LOLOL
