Update on my carpal tunnel syndrome..

Went to see a specialist in Okla City yesterday and im going to have surgery
on my right wrist but dont know when for sure yet as we have to get approval
from Workman's Comp but it could be anytime now. It will be outpatient and will only take 20 to 30 minutes, will be unable to use my hand for about a month then therapy to regain the use of it so that means i will be off from work a month or so and also i wont be on computer either unless i do it with my left hand lol! i think it will be hard do that with only one hand especially the left hand. I will let you know when the surgery will be.
Just thought id let you know!

Oh sure i will!...so you have it too? i hope it dont get worse but if you still do
some form of repititious (spell?) work with your hands, it could get worse..mine did..since i cant do anything else due to my hearing impairment, i will have to go on disability after the surgery.

Defee: I remember your thread at the now-defunct deaf bulletin board, about your possblity having CTS.

I was hoping that surgery could be avoided for you and anyone else. I have heard there are risks involving CTS and surgery. My stepfather had one so did my good friend, but their surgeries didn't go well like they expected.

I think I may have CTS in some ways. What I do when it is bothersome, I just try to exercise and rest my hands as much as I could.

There has been researches that a lot deaf people and interpreters get CTS from using sign languages too much.

Anyway, I hope your surgery goes well for you.

I have CT myself -- have a mild case of it though...started back in 1993 when I had the newspaper route. Java can vouch for me.

Defee and FlyFree, I hope CTS vanishes soon. Brian too. That sucks! Must be hard to sign or write or do stuff that requires your hands?

Defeegirly, I hope the surgery goes well too!!

By the way, hope your surgery will go well ! Defee You know, what is the best Physical therapist for your hand.

Oh thank you, bullymom...well im not scared of this type of surgery but im a little nervous and i hate the inconvenience of not able to do things that you normally use with both hands like washing your hair with both hands, shower, putting on makeup...etc...I guess either my hubby washes my hair or i go to beauty shop and forget the makeup ha...I guess i will take tub baths instead of showers...probably with plastic over the bandage...oh well, doctor will tell me what i can do or cant do....I just hate the inconvenience of it all...

How did you get it in the first place? Was it from work or signing too much?

From years of typing, starting with typewriters back then before computers, then computers.
Its funny, sometimes it can be confused with arthritis! My dad was a mechanic when he started to get pain in his wrists so he assumed it was arthritis, back then Carpal tunnel syndrome was unheard of..and when i think back, he never complained of pain in other parts of body like knees, elbows, etc just his hands so now i think what he really had was carpal not arthritis!
So if a person has true arthritis, it would be in all the joints of your body, not just one area like hands for example...reckon?
