Why do you think people are ignorant....

Do you get bullied because you are Deaf? A guy at Y!A bullied me to no end because I captilized Deaf. He called me stupid for God's sakes! I got picked on for my FM system at school, when I was friends with a another girl her older sister would bully me and started making fake signs when ever my hearing was brought up. We always talked about it because she could have ended up completely Deaf when she was younger.... Why are hearing people so butthurt, just because I am Deaf. I hardly publically advertise it!

God... they are making me so mad. -_-

Sorry, I just needed to let that out.

People tend to fight the thing closest to them that symbolizes what they do not understand. They are scared, best thing is to help them. Yes you will be rejected for trying to help, but the smallest input, a sign, a single word that will show no reaction or seem to have no impact for days of even weeks will show results over insults. I make many changed, in the office I work, the places I visit and the people I see. All from a subtle movement sign to the hearing and a note so they will understand. People did not know what to think when a non-blind girl walked into places with her dog but knew with Sables service jacket on they could not say anything, but they did start to ask, Hearing dog, never heard of hearing dogs. My point is do not hate them, help them and change them to understanding. If that does not work taser them, just kidding bout the taser.

It's not a matter of ignorance......it's a matter of douchebaggery. No seriously some people are just asshats, it has nothing to do with them being ignorant, or with them being "hearies", asshats come in all flavors and colors, they even come in Deaf flavor, so please don't go thinking all hearing people are ignorant or asshats.

Bullies come in all forms. You know, cats often get bullied at animal shelters by other cats. As a human, I've been bullied before. Yes, it's sad.

Most times, I do not let anyone bully me....never forget one time I went to see an eye doctor (without an intrepretor)...during the exam when the lights were very dim...he was talking to me...and I told him. "I'm sorry, I don't understand, and would you please cut the lights on or write it down?"...He became "real snotty"...and said (mouthing the words real big) "can't you read lips"?....Now that made me very angry! And I replied "how in the hell am I supposed to know what you are saying in the dark and I am profound deaf!".?...

He cut the lights on....too lazy to write it down!...And too stingy to pay for an intrepretor....So I made a "complaint" to my friend who owns an intrepretor agency and she told me that he was one of the doctors that still refused to hire them.

Robin I am sorry you had so much trouble at a Doctors office. My interpreter Amanda does not get paid she says she does it out of love.

Couple of answers have been suggested here - intimidation and douchebaggery.

Here's another idea though - maybe some people feel shitty about themselves and they feel they need to bring someone else down in order to to feel better about themselves. They might consider some of us the "perfect" victims in that situation - especially the ones who can't speak well and thus might not be able to fight back or stop them using verbal means.

I did get mocked/bullied a lot in high school, during the time period when I refused to use my voice. I just did my best to ignore them except when they started IMing me anonymously - then I did bitch them out. Needless to say they never IMed me again. But otherwise these people were just not worth getting into trouble at school.

Truth, and good for you Irish.

Yes when people feel bad about themselves they sometimes like to tear people down to build themselves up.....and all manner of asshattery and douchebaggery ensue. I love those words, not gonna lie

Don't let them tear you down Darkbunny, and don't let them drag you down to their level either. You ignore them, they're not worth the air they're breathing and certainly not your time, thoughts, or trouble.

Ambrosia (did I spell your name right?) and Irish really do have a point. I will just have to ignore them and just prove them wrong.

Why I think people are ignorant lack of knowledge on certain things. Sometimes , I just ignore them.
