same company, different location, different quote....

I recently bought a van in Michigan. I would like to get insured via State Farm. I would get insurance in Illinois before I go or in Michigan when I get there. Does it make difference? Would I get same or different quotes? Remember, my age and record stays the same at either locations.

Good question. Guess you can check with each of office for your quote.

Are you going to be registering it as a vehicle in Michigan or Illinois?
I think that's the important one.

Insurance companies generally would give quote that would be different from one location to another. It is all about risks. For instance, if you live in a city that is prone to high accidents rate will get higher premium than other city that has lower accident rates.

State Farm is good company. Been with them for decades.

Automobile insurance quotes are based on your official residence address as well as your personal info. Normally your current insurance covers the new vehicle for a few days until you formally file the paperwork, so you should have temporary coverage as long as you contact your insurance agent.

Every time I've bought a new car, the dealer just needed a copy of my current vehicle's insurance, no matter what state it was.

My location stays same. Either way, I'm getting van in Michigan and driving it back to Chicago. Not moving out. Address stays the same.

I just wanted to know if I would get cheaper insurance in Illinois or Michigan. All informations will be the same regardless.

^Well you can buy insurance in michigan...BUT your rate will be based on where you live (as stated above). Your rate would be about the same no matter where the state farm is, because your policy would be based on where the car will be driven at.

I highly doubt that you could use an insurance agent that is in a different state though.

Different. In my little northern California town my insurance is different than it would be in crowded L.A. and still different in Reno.

Yes, my company is State Farm.

In order to get a car registered in Reno before bringing it to California we had to insure it in Reno. Then we had to insure it in California once we got the original registration straightened out.

The rates were different.

Exactly...you had to insure for where you were. True the quotes were different because of the location that the car was currently in, but since he will be living and driving in a different state he will need to notify the insurance company of where he is "now", thus his rate will be adjusted to where he is....aka he could buy insurance in Michigan, but when he notifies the insurance that the car is actually driven in Illinois his rate will change.

Just like you cant tag a car in a different county than where you live at....it's illegal
