TV advertisement

Just thinking. Does TV advertising affect you or people you know?

Do you buy Taco Bell, Budweiser, Bounty or Tide, etc the same week after you see it on TV?
Do you buy a car you saw on TV?

I don't think I buy stuff so much as become inspired by ads to want to do something similar... not necessarily with that product that was just advertised.

There was a terrible, naughty ad here where they showed bacon being fried and the voiceover was talking about bread and ketchup and.... ohhhmmmmm you just craved a bacon sandwich after seeing it. I don't even remember who the sponsor was (must have been the bread company)

If anything I get more annoyed by TV ads, so I tend to not get interested by what they're advertising. Sometimes if it's a food ad and there's something good advertised I'll be tempted, but I rarely watch TV nowadays as it is. Any TV I do watch is usually on demand, so I guess I'm slowly removing adverts from my viewing habits.

Some TV ads do annoy me. So many of them are about food/soda products or car ads....And the one about J.W. Wentworth is one of the worst...("I want my $$ NOW!")....And whenever ur watching a show where the host says..."and the winner is...or the results are"...they automatically go to a break and another silly TV ad....

But, yeah, I do see some products on TV that I will try, even buy if interested. But for the most part, whenever a TV ad comes up, it's time to get a snack or use the bathroom...

the only tv ads that get noticed are
restaurants advertising specials and new meals.
teasers from the next episode of favorite shows.

mostly just browse the tv program guide seeking what else to watch later in the day while an ad is on. when watching shows with my wife, we use commerical breaks to discuss the show that is on.

Restaurant ads and new foods definitely influence me to try the advertised product.

I'll say I do NOT buy a produce from a company whose ad I see displayed sponsoring a program I do not care for.
On the other hand, if I see "closed captioned sponsored by............."
I'll remember the product or service.

what are peoples views about product placement in the tv shows?

Like Gerber products in The Walking Dead. I'd rather get a Woodsman's Pal from the original manufacturer, not the Gerber version, regardless of it stopping a walker on the show.

Everyone that sees TV ads make choices based on those ads. Some people are unaware of how the ads affect them. Subliminal messages trigger responses in consumers.

And those TV commercials about erectile dyfunction/anti-depressents, etc., .... and the god-awful side-effects?...Seems there is a commercial and antidote for every imaginable symptom in the world!...There's a PILL for anything and everything....

What kind of subliminal messages do you have in mind?
Any examples?

progressive car insurance "flo" is obviously referance to "aunt flo" so they are subliminally selling tampons and maxi-pads.

I am no fan of Ad advertising. Sometime I had to watch it and other times I just change the channels. There are few Ads that I could buy if it make sense on the kind of product that I could afford usually at the food store. Otherwise, AD advertising just turn me off.

When commercials come on, I usually mute the TV and play games on my cell phone until my show comes back on.

Sometimes.. like my niece and I saw this neat glitter stuff and she could make temporary designs. Probably the first and only time I bought something on a whim like that though.

It doesn't affect me at all. For 7 years I did not own a television. I could afford one, just chose not to. Now that I live with my boyfriend, we have one but it doesn't get any TV stations other than the game consoles

I think more then making you want to go out and buy thier product, the purpose of advertising is to make you thinkof thier product when you want something. Example-- its lunch time, and you are hungry and need to go somewhere to eat, and you saw a commercial for taco bell that day, you are more apt to think of taco bell before you would think of a place you didnt see.. make sense?

What I hate is the drug culture that is encouraged with all the Rx drug commercials. Like, life will be oh-so-wonderful for you if you take this Rx for whatever health issue you may have kind of thing. And how they rush through the often life-threatening side effects so we won't notice too much. Greedy drug companies, as if they don't make a fortune off of the public already.
