New section or sub-section for writing help?
Some posters in another thread suggested that it might be beneficial to start a new section (or sub-section) for posters seeking help with English grammar and writing. It would NOT be a place to criticize the English grammar of other posters. It would be a positive place for posters to request tutorial help, proofreading, or writing suggestions. It could also be a source for discussing tricky English euphemisms and idioms, or offering tips for learning some of the grammar and spelling "rules".
What do you think?

It's my post what I personally think of, not for ADers since you ask us "What do you think?" like every ADers make their own posts what they personally thought of, not for us. We are adults and make our decision either we can agree or not to any suggestion threads.

A place to ask questions about English spelling, punctuation, and grammar is a great idea, even if it only gets used every once in a while.
I have several dictionaries and thesauri ("thesauruses" is also accepted by Webster if you don't like to use the Greek plual, ha ha ha) in my computer and three grammar books for U.S. publications nearby, but I still like to get opinions from other writers and English whizzes. We may have a few disagreements, but that's nothing new. For the most part, discussions -- even empassioned ones -- are nearly always educational. I hope our moderators look down on us and grant our prayers. |

Reba, I think a new section or sub-section should add to Creative Writing section. Because it is a relation to this subject, it's more make sense to me.
Mm? Just thought.

Well, a sub-section isn't necessarily needed.
You could post your story or writing in the "Creative Writing" section and ask people for feedback on grammar, spelling, criticism, etc... If you just want to show off your story without expecting criticism immediately, you can just post the story and leave it up to open discussion by anyone. |

I think a section to ask questions about spelling, punctuation, and grammar is an excellent idea.
Creative writing isn't the only area where someone might have questions or concerns. However, the heading "new section or sub-section" will almost certainly doom it failure. It should be headed, "Writing Q & A" or "Ask the English experts" or "Writing helps" -- some title telling members what the section is about. |

Perhaps the next step is to have a poll...to see how many are willing to have such a heading or sub-heading added to AD.

I honestly don't know how I feel about this, because of what happened in a couple of threads where some members criticism others inculde myself because of our English grammar and writing skills, and part of me feels like I'm not good enough or smart enough like the rest of you folks...

No one is expert at everything. How many times do we see posts about, "How do I sign this in ASL?" How many times do we see posts about, "How do I fix this computer problem?" We all need help at times. The important point is, a writing "helps" thread should be totally voluntary. No one should give a grammar lesson outside of a request by the writer. If you don't ask for help, we should zip our lips. If you do ask for help, we should do it in a positive way. Angel, if anyone criticizes your writing skills, challenge them to compete with your BBQ cooking skills. Then we'll see who wins! See, everyone has strengths and weaknesses.

People are rude to correct grammar and spelling without the writer asked for help I think. But the new section or sub-section is for people to ask for help and not anyone just criticizing (or I hope). Probably it needs very careful moderator. But maybe one positive is people could say in other parts of AD about criticizing posts "if you want to help with grammar or spelling, help with posts in the Grammar/Spelling Section (or whatever the name) and not just criticize everywhere". I hope so. |

I'll all to it as long there's no criticizes and that Fuzzy stays out of that sub-forum. (I'm sorry to say this but there were too many times I've asked her to stop criticizing my and others grammar).
