How do you communicate.. pagers.. sidekicks.. blackberry

I'm curious to know how do most of you communicate via pager. Do you use a sidekick, blackberry, iphone or just a regular cell phone that has a qwerty keyboard? Why did you pick this particular device and what cell phone service (company) do you have?

thanks

What is this poll used for, akhi8?

I use T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009.

The reason I use it is that the data plan without voice plan is cheap - $30 dollar per month. You don't find that price anywhere with other providers such as AT&T, VerizonWireless. Sprint and so on.

I use SMS (text messaging), E-mail, Instant Messaging (AOL IM and Yahoo! Messenger), Facebook and Twitter.

I have At&T iPhone 3GS. I really love it. Lots of Apps. Including email, SMS, IM, web browsing, Facebook, Tethering, etc.... I was boring of my T-mobile Sidekick, Sprint Blackberry, and AT&T Tilt. They now retired.

At the moment, AT&T . And use Blackberry. I picked it because I knew people who had it and it looked fun.

But my husband has T-Mobile Sidekick, and when my contract expires, I am going back to T-Mobile and Sidekick.

Use my computer - I always find free Wifi.

AT&T's TAP start at $30 or higher - depend on what model of cell phone
Sprint $30 blackberry or other model - data only
T-Mobile $30 for sidekick

Verizon or other brand are higher price.

Sprint $30 come with unlimited text, unlimited data and 5gb tethering. Not just data only.

Verizon is better 3G in USA. Lot of my family and other side family use Verizon some of them travel a lot and some of them live in farm/country road. Mostly farm/country road do not have coverage for ATT and T-mobile.

Keep in mind.. Big city is high tax, high price for house but low price for network carrier. Small city/town is low tax, low price, etc.. but high price for network carrier so Total small town with Verizon still cheaper than big town with T-mobile.

may i ask, why do you want to go back to Tmobile and sidekick? Lots of people are not happy with sidekick. They switched to BB, verizon, or any other servies rather than Tmobile/sidekick.

I still have a sidekick lx. i have sidekick for 6 years. I haven't go to the other service yet. last week ago, my sidekick has been acting up for the whole 2 weeks, only email itself that was outrage and been fixed toooo long. I still don't know how to switch to the other service because i am too comfortable to be familiarize with my sidekick. I am not good at changing. ha

We always had T-Mobile before, and the service was good for us.

I am afraid a lot of my reasons for wanting to go back are stupid. When we went in to get my husband's new Sidekick, they have really neat casings with camouflage, or anime characters that you can change the original.

Also I like the design of the flip screen and the keyboard much better than my Blackberry.

Plus I notice that my husband get faster internet with the Sidekick.

Also, I forgot to mention, for about a month I kept getting this weird message on the Blackberry that it could not render internet pages.

I finally did research and managed to fix it, but it was annoying. Never had that problem with T-Mobile devices.

We used to own a few....

Wyndtell, Blackberry and sidekick. One more I forgot thru Sprint.

Now we don't have any for now. We take our netbook laptop on the road and use WiFi for now till we decide buy new one pager to share. Maybe next year or 2. Not in rush to get a pager...sometimes I get frustrated yes but stay think positive.

My older daughter has Verizon. She seems to always get a bunch of high charges that she was not expecting. Of course she is on a hearing plan with voice so I guess it is different. But it still makes me wonder about Verizon.

I have thought of doing what Lake Tahoe said and just to use the netbook and WIFI when I am done with the Blackberry, but I am not sure it would be practical for my family to communicate with me, as now they have instant access where ever I am with my pager in my pocket.

I think family might object.

My four friends got verizon and they are happy with their mobiles. They have been member of verizon for two years. so

i notice a few of my co workers brought their netbook here. it would be convienent to bring it and in the car back and forth. But going to somewhere outside without relying a car then carry the netbook with you? that is a big question. I do want to buy the netbook and experiement it to see how far i do with it. ahh technology!

The reason why I'm asking this question is because I'm hearing (shocking) yes I know sorry ahah, but I notice some cell phone companies do no cater to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

I know T-Mobile was the first company to really offer DATA ONLY plan on their Sidekick pagers, but in the past their internet reception was lousy. Data only plan before cost $30 a month but now if you sign up for T-mobile service for the first time data only plan went up to $45 i think. I notice most people are sick and tired of their SK because to many problems or just not satisfied. Now Blackberry's are becoming popular because you can do the same thing as the sidekick such as E-Mail, Instant messenger , Text and full qwerty keyboard. T-Mobile Data Plan for blackberry is $40 with unlimited internet and email but add another $20 for text/picture messaging, total of $60 a month. The new SK LX 3G has improved alot, it has added alot of new features plus it uses 3G because T-Mobile has 3G now.. yayy

AT&T has recently added a new program called TAP that allows Deaf or Hard of Hearing people to get the iphone plan for $50 (DATA ONLY) 3G/S or $40 for iphone 2G. Their 3G coverage is not bad at all, you pretty much have 3G coverage all over the U.S. The new iphone 3G/S has everything you could possibly need, E-mail, Text, qwerty keyboard, Instant messenger but no iprelay . you can add SPRINTIP to your AIM buddy list instead of i711.

Verizon does not really offer any special plans.. just really expensive DATA ONLY plan. I don't think they even know how many people would benefit if they had a special DATA ONLY plan. In my opinion Verizon service is really good, their customer service is one of the best out there but do not cater to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. SAD.

Sprint just added a DATA only plan for $30 a month on their blackberry which is fabolous and the new Palm PRE. I think thats an AMAZING DEAL right there. How many of you are on the DATA ONLY plan from Sprint for $30 a month?

I guess my point is trying to collect information and hopefully pass it to people and let them know there is a demand.

I thought they did... I can pull up AD on my BB. It sets up as a mobile page. if it is a true mobile page or if it converts on the BB.

I originally had Altell, which obviously merged to being Verizon. The services are all the same as before.

Tmobile does not coverage in De Soto City and Lorida, Florida (Highlands County)

Tmobile does not cover in town of De Soto City, FL and Lorida, FL ( Highlands County) on US 98 highway and Off US 98 Northbound of County Road 17 South, When I visit to see my friends in De Soto City, FL. I just consider to change the cellular carrier company to be AT&T or Sprint. but My contact already expired and now it become month to month for my Tmobile bill until I will transfer to AT&T Blackberry Bold or Sprint Blackberry Tour 9630.

But I live in the Palm Beach County, FL. T-mobile, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon are excellent coverage in my home area.

You can count me for Sprint. I was with Tmobilie for quite some time. Started out with SK1 color and moved up to sk2. Was with tmobile for like maybe 9 or so years???
Made the switch to Sprint BB Curve..so far It's serving my needs at 30 bucks a pop. My contract is gonna be up in March of next year..looking to upgrade to the 3g or I am wondering if I should wait for the 4g to rollout. Phone is still workin like new and looks new. Haven't had any accidents/lost it..YET!

(sigh) Another person for error about Verizon.

Here a link.

Text Only Messaging Plans from Verizon Wireless

Nationwide Messaging Plans

"These plans are perfect for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing or if voice minutes are not needed."

Verizon already have deaf and hard of hearing plan for 3 years.

This is quite informative, and it definitely will help me select the best sidekick in the future. I do have my T-Mobile Sidekick ID. I prefer to add voice minutes to it for personal reasons. I'm simple and low maintenance. I use text, emails and internet. That's all I care about.
