does not matter which one, still 99% of DSL modem has built in router while about 80% of cable modem does not have router built in.

That is very rare, I havent seen one without firewall buillt in so far,
some of them the firewall actually buried deep, you have to look harder, this includes Motorola DSL modem, and embarq 660 series.

Westell all models have firewall/router Even with FiOS (New Westell modem support FiOS, and I think it is 9100 series)
2wire all models have firewall/router
Motorola 2210 and 3327 has built in firewwall
Actiontec modem all models have firewall/router Even with FiOS (Mi424)

AT&T offers either 2wire or Motorola modems

Then it rare for you. It's all depend on ISP and area. I see there are plenty of SBC DSL modem without firewall setting.

Here a picture exactly like that. Good luck with this and let me know when you find the firewall setting.

I have seen that before and yes, its under Advanced. Your modem DOES have firewall.

BTW, I do these stuff for living and know by my heart.

check this website, it outlines specifications for speedstream 5100, look under firewall, there is information there. http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/hardwa...w&model_id=394

There is no firewall setting under advanced. Look the picture again careful. What's make you think modem is mine? I never said firewall. I SAID FIREWALL SETTING. "Firewall" and Firewall setting" are different. OFC all modem does have firewall and dont mean alway have firewall setting.

You pick wrong model. It is not Speedstream 5100.

This is Speedstream 5100 look like. OFC It's have firewall setting.

BTW It's Speedstream 5100B which not have firewall setting. So I had to set it up for bridge mode thru PPP location to other router to make it work.

Sure, still there is firewall, when you set to PPP you disable the firewall and transfer the firewall to the router that you have.

Please remember, the firewall is generic word, the firewall means block the ports, and there is reason for port forwarding which really means open a brick of firewall to specific private IP address..

I understand the confusion, but still almost all NAT based system has firewall.

The only DSL modem that I don't see firewall is Cisco 677 modem.

And nope, I didn't look wrong model, just that sometimes ISP mocked up the interface of a modem and that is common. Verizon have their own frirmware which makes the interface look different, just that they used different words just to confuse people like you. I was like yawning.

Nope. There is no disable the firewall under PPP for 5100B.

Interface dont matter! It's about hardware as itself.

The 5100 has four lights

The 5100b has five lights

You pick wrong model and deal with that! Don't be so stubborn. I already play around 5100 and 5100B and I can tell they are so different.

Let me mock you.

Your modem DOES have firewall. check this website, it outlines specifications for Cisco CISCO677, look under firewall, there is information there

Nope, you still don't understand,

Whenever there is NAT involved, you should be able to identified yourself easily. If the IP address shows private IP address, then there has to be firewall involved,.

That Cisco modem that I know of, pass with public IP address, that is why there isn't firewall set up.

And? There still no firewall setting and no NAT setting in 5100B.

Relax, I was only mocking you about CISCO. Now you know how I feel.
What's up with that?

I owe SpeedStream 5100B and it does have NAT.

I disable PPP on modem and use bridge modem and use PPP on router because I was running into issue and I believe my issue was I am experiecing double NAT one on the modem and one on the router.

So I am using router to do PPP and keep only 1 NAT
