Hey Linux Users!,
We have good news for tethering Blackberry to Linux!!!
Two softwares that you can download and compiles called "Barry" and "Blackberry for Puppy".
I have PuppyLinux 4.2 (recently downloaded) and use it as a LiveCD on my old Dell laptop. I was testing Wireless USB adapter, Belkin F5D7050 v 1.00 (RL2500 chipset) and Rokman G (ZyDAS chipset). Both works nicely on Puppy Linux.
Then it popped in my mind, Is there a way to tether Blackberry to Puppy Linux !?? So I googled and found it, YES!! Blackberry for Puppy! So I downloaded and compiled using ".pup" with ease while on live cd and then reboot the X Window (Don't reboot the PC or Laptop itself!!). Bingo! I check "start--Network--Blackberry " I plugged my Sprint Blackberry Curve to USB and PuppyLinux detected flashdrive from my Blackberry. Then I navigate "Start--Network--Blackberry" and the pop up terminal window scrolled automatically detecting Sprint's Cellular service. It asked me if there are Password. I clicked "NO" and proceed. My Curve show "Modem in use" on top of its screen.. I ran Seamonkey browser and it works!!!
NEEATOO!! Now that Linux users can tether their Blackberry to Linux Base Netbook or old laptops or desktops running on Puppylinux or Ubuntu using Barry.
Here's the link
Ubuntu or any Debian base Linux --> https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/barry/0.14-2ubuntu2
Here's another link with instruction and download--> http://www.netdirect.ca/software/packages/barry/
There are other Distros use Barry too. but compiling methods are bit different.
PuppyLinux users ---> blackberry puppy linux download - Google Search
(My apology that I couldn't log in www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=20194 where I found and download ".pup" file for quick compiling. I guess their server was down for service.
So I sure hope that you'll enjoy newfound use for your Blackberry on Linux!!
One last thing... Those who own Blackberry Bold and Curve also newer Blackberries, Developer are trying to create new Tethering program for Linux. Sorry..
