I talked a member over at blackberryforum.com into improving the BBLight code.

For those of you who have the Blackberry Curve probably know that if someone calls you the regular way, the screen lights up with the number of who is calling, BUT if someone texts you, only the little status light at the top blinks. This doesn't work good if the phone is on the desk where you can't see the status light or feel the vibration. The phone will not always be on your person.

This guy improved the code so that the screen light now comes on when someone texts you! Just had it done a few days ago and it works great. The best part is BBLight is FREE.

Yes, can you give me link by which one of thread in blackberry forums? I would like to come over there and read their thread and posts about that like you said. ;). Thanks!

The thread I started asking for it, (two pages long) is here:
Program to turn on Screen light when texted?
http://www.blackberryforums.com/aft...13-program-turn-screen-light-when-texted.html

and here is the link to that and several other free aps:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/aft...breply-binaries-gpl-source-code-included.html

BBLight: Allows you to set the screen backlight to stay on under certain conditions, i.e. charging, time of day, etc.
BBReply: Allows you to show a different reply to address on your emails. (This is now done in BIS and this app doesn't work on newer devices.)
BBToday: A Today screen with customizable fields for weather, stocks, email info, etc.
BBWeather: Allows you to quickly check current weather and forecasts for locations you specify.
BBCorrector: A spell checking application.

Page 11-12 of the above link for BB aps talks about the BBLight and the latest codes:

The last post on page 11 shows the LATEST version of BBLight:

BBLight v1.85:
OTA - http://www.tateu.net/software/bb.php?f=bblight
Desktop - http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=bblightdt
Source- http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=bblightsrc

Changes:

V1.85 Beta 2008-05-16
* Fixed problem that kept "Activate on Startup" from working.

V1.84 Beta 2008-05-16
* Added a system check to keep the backlight from turning on when the device is locked

V1.83 Beta 2008-05-15
* Added SMS and Email monitoring - turns backlight on when new msg is received
* Changed the options screen layout
* Changed "On Remove Holster" to "Out of Holster" and changed the way it worked. Now,
with this option checked, the backlight will always be on when the blackberry is not
in it's holster. This never worked for me in previous versions so I changed it.
* Changed "On External Power" to "External Power/Charging" and changed the way it worked. Now,
with this option checked, the backlight will always be on when the blackberry is plugged in
and/or charging. This never worked for me in previous versions so I changed it.

Here is what I was doing before the BBLight improvement:

When it is on my desk I elevate it up enough so I can see the status lights. Kinda neat really as I see the BB better.

I can see the status light better this way elevated on prop.

Can't see it so well laying flat. When it vibrates it slides off the prop.
