Question Krown Pocketcomm

I posted a thread about what TTYs work with a cell phone when one is using the relay service. There are times I do HAVE to use a TTY and cannot use text messaging, email, pager, or voice-carry-over. Since I am replacing my landline phone (yes, I know about the 911 thing) with a cell phone I need a TTY that will work with it whether I am at home or not.

I've done a Google, and came up with the Krown Pocketcomm. However it looks like it is not sold anywhere? I came here to do a search, and someone asked about it over a year ago with a reply from someone that worked for Krown saying it was a bad product.

Well, I'm asking the question again, maybe things have changed in that year and there's something else out there or other people have tried the Krown Pocketcomm and say it is pretty good with cell phones.

Any opinions?

We have cell phone "smartphone" with data plan (no voice plan). If, I use Krown pocketcom to hook up with our smartphone. To call someone's tty or relay service. It will cost 20 or 40 cents per minutes. No thank to pay big billing.

It sounds like old fashioned pager from 90's and early 2000's.

Remember about this pager, it used to very popular in late 90's and early 2000's.

Pacman, it's not like pager. It's just TTY itself.

Yes, it's discontinued, thank to Sidekick the murder.
Hmm... PocketComm doesn't work on most vary cell phone with TTY compatible. New lately tech device are getting complex that make not work anymore. It sucks.

I thought TTYs are heading to it's graveyard. I remmy I used to have Motorola T-900 for couple of year before SK B/W came out. I have Ultratech Compact C and I got it through TAP and only used once. Now, it's collecting dust. I want to sell it to rid of it!!! Still brand new!!

Krown Pocketcomm ?? I am not sure if it's benefical cuz everyone have their mobile and relay to keep in touch with others.

it's more like deaf with speech skill would use as VCO mode. That's why there is PocketVCO which still popular to partial group.

All new cell phone WILL work with TTY (with headset port anyway), there are an option which let you switch between VOICE and TTY (basically same to me, it just tell phone company to use different service option for TTY).

I would bet soon or later these 911 centers will abandon the TTY machines, once they abandoned their TTY machines or retired their machines, whats good is having TTY on hand?

The problem is technical limitations DO exists, the TTY uses Baudot while the rest use ASCII and other machine languages and those language do not understand Baudot at all and in no way will work with them.

I will NEVER buy another TTY again. Like I said in the past, TTY did served us well, and its time to move on.

I seriously doubt that, not without FCC approval.. more likely they will convert TTY support into the computer system.

I agree with RichardDeaf. Try having your Windows Mobile phone stay connected to the Internet for about 8 to 10 hours a day. Average battery use is about 5 hours for Internet in my PPC-6700 Windows Mobile SmartPhone. That is, if you can charge 2 batteries per night.

That's why TTY is great if you want to send and receive calls and that you can't keep the data connection up and running all the time.

That is too bad about the PocketComm. It looked like a little nifty thing, way smaller than the Ultratec Compact-C or the Ameriphone Q90.

I have crossed off the Krown Voice-Carry-Over from my list because I need a TTY and there are some phone calls that I cannot make with VCO so I need TTY, not a 100% Voice-Carry-Over machine.

Okay to clarify what others have said in this thread; pretty much any call phone will work with a TTY, but I just have to make sure the TTY is compatible with the cell-phone or what?

From the pictures I see with both those TTYs, they are the best ones that work with cell-phones because there is some sort of plug that goes from the TTY into the phone.

Does that enable Voice-Carry-Over or is that only for TTY? There are times I will need to make VCO calls, but I would say 80% of the time it will be TTY calls.

I agreed!! TTY did serve us well in past and now new technology have arrived, TTY are at it's retirement. Maybe we can have a retirement party for TTY.
