I am trying to put together the right setup for CC now and in the future (HD) without replacing a lot of hardware or software.

Since CC capability is heavily dependent not only on which products you choose but also which *combination* of products, I need some assistance from those who have a lot of experience with CC and know the "best" total setup.

Currently I have (Win XP Pro / SageTV / and ATI All-in-Wonder Elite card)

Here is what I would like be able to do (in approximate order of importance - 1 thru 3 far more important than #4):

1) Watch TV w/ CC in SageTV
2) Record TV w/ CC in SageTV
3) Search CC text (either "integrated" similar to Stephen Toub (see link below) or "raw" like a set of text files 1 per show)
4) Watch and record HD digital (ATSC) and analog (NTSC) closed captioning (or be able to do so in the future)

Current setup limitations:
1) I don't use and don't want to use MCE 2005 or Vista MCE (In all respects except CC these are much more restrictive)
2) My current tuner card is ATI All-in-Wonder Elite (Specs say records CC but I can't get it to work in SageTV)

Obstacles:
I have done some research and AFAIK (anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong) it appears that

1) SageTV only works with Hauppauge x50 tuner cards because they (alone) support "embedded" CC. (see Closed Caption Capture by Merrypig for great detailed description).
also (SageTV FAQ - SageTV Community)

2) Most progress in searching CC has been made for MCE 2005 users using the more flexible non-embedded "container" DVR-MS method
(Stephen Toub : DVR-MS: Adventures in Closed Captioning)

3) CC HD capture and record is even less supported than CC in regular PVR recording(http://www.alldeaf.com/deaf-product...gital-atsc-analog-ntsc-closed-captioning.html)

Summary / Questions:

1) What is the best way to achieve my 4 goals above without changing my current setup or at least changing it as little as possible? TechBill (also a SageTV user) I'm looking to you. ;)

2) As you can see, at this point I can't get any CC, so any suggestions both on how to make my setup work or comments on what works for you (SageTV or not) are greatly appreciated.

3) Is anyone aware of a search capability for CC (similar to the great work done by S. Toub) that is not based on MCE 2005 DVR-MS? (With all the great potential features available based on CC content, I can't understand why all the companies are dragging their butts in supporting CC!!) - - - Are there any programmers out there who are interested in expanded CC and may be able to develop something similar for the rest of us? If something like this could be developed, it would almost certainly open the floodgates to wider community pressure for CC content.

Thanks!
