Very true!

I went to Silent Dinner last Saturday night, and all Deafies were using their text pagers. Just one other hearie and myself didn't have pagers.

Well, the reality is that they are talking to people not in their immediate vicinity.

That's exactly how I feel when I'm walking through a deaf community these days. Sometimes, I'll walk out of my elevator and see 10 people standing around in the lobby with their heads bowed down and fiddling with their pagers. Sometimes, I'll go to dinner with deaf friends and I'll see half of them looking down the whole time chatting away on their pagers. I even see people stand their pagers up at the table so that they can look at it every minute to see if anyone IMed them or left them a message. Jeez!

I've tried that before. They will stop for a moment... then back to their pagers later. That's why I'm a bit more picky when it comes to going out with my friends. Most of my friends I go out with rarely look at their pagers.

When I host a convention or some event of that scale, I will personally see to that it is a quiet zone. All of your funny sidekicks will stop working. haha.

it is all true... myself I do have sidekick... I always use it if nothing to do or something is imporant.. if I am around with my friend I just fuck my pager even my friend say someone left msg I told them is it imporant.. person come first than device... cuz it can wait while person don't.

Exactly.. I agree with Panda....

I got this sidekick for a good reason due of My son's trip to Boston which takes me 1 hour fifteen min to 2 hours fifteen min depend on the time of his medical appointment in Boston for his brain tumor treatment.. I got sidekick for emergency relate.. instead of asking my kid to call or stranger or somebody I prefer to do it on my own.. Also I use sidekick when I stay in Hospital with my son so I won't feel lonely when he sleeps..

For some reason my quote wouldn't add in maybe I press wrong button you have to pardon me im very tired LOL

anyway if Im around with friend I don't use pager unless emergency.. many of my friend knows my Screenname so I add 2nd screenname for PRIVACY and EMERGENCY only with a serious interruption or use e-mail.. thats it

That's illegal, you know. If you knowingly create a "wireless-free zone" and it prevents someone from making a call in an emergency, then you're opening yourself up to a lawsuit.

The better thing to do would to encourage people to pay attention to GOOD MANNERS and BE POLITE! I still find myself paying attention to my pager at meals but I do realize that it's impolite and I excuse myself before I check it. It's unfortunate, but since the pager is for work purposes, I can't say I'll ignore it when I'm on business.

I have Ogo and it's so wonderful with no contract and credit check. Some people have bad credit check or somewhat, they can go to Ogo since sidekick company can check their credit check so deaf people would say oh man and ask someone to use their credit to get sidekick. So, I rather to use my own name on my own pager so I got Ogo. So, it got email and instant messaging. Thats all it matters. Also for relay, I can use instant messaging anyways. It's almost like AOL pager but just added Yahoo and MSN on your choice. Thats all. For the company if I have or go out, I will just FK the pager and put on away message. UNLESS emergency, they will know what to do. Yes, I agree with you Vamp, I am picky with people that I hang out at somewhere, they go on pager.. I would feel like HELLO?? Am I here as ghost? I would feel left out or being rude.. So, I just simple not hang out with that person/people of group. They should have common of sense with that situation. I can use my pager whenever I am bored or at place where I am alone so can keep me company or at my work if I am on break.
