What environmental sounds are of interests to deaf people?

Hi there,

I am a research assistant from the University of Siegen in Germany and I am interested in finding out about what deaf and hard of hearing people think about environmental sounds (like sirens or alarms) and about technology to inform about these sounds.
I also want to find out how such a device ideally shall look like.
Together with Dr Marion Hersh from the University of Glasgow I prepared a questionnaire to find out about this.
With the knowledge gained from the survey, we want to develop a new mobile device that can inform about environmental sounds. Everywhere, not only at home or work.
