I'm curious about Google Glass. Is anyone have a google glass? I heard the google glass would be great for Deaf people.

As someone with Google Glass, I can tell you that it does indeed hold much potential, but is hampered by the current hardware limitations and software deficiencies.

The battery life is far too short. Even with it just running "standby" (mostly asleep, occasional pictures), after a few hours it runs out.

The dual core CPU gets way too hot too fast. For example, linphone for android can be installed on it (with a small patch to force it to run in landscape), but when you make a phonecall the video is only "good" for the first couple of seconds, and then the CPU is so HOT that it starts to scale the CPU speed down to try and keep it from melting (the plastic outgassing smell is palpable when it is hot). If you hold an ice cube up to it, the video is pretty darned good. Take the ice cube away, and it becomes a screen of garbage macroblocks.

Google Hangouts is likewise hampered and problematic, not to mention that there is no "self view" (the camera only views what you are looking at).

These are the two biggest hardware limitations by the first and second generation Glass that will prevent things like VRS or even augmented reality overlays from being used.

Simply put, the battery and heat issues make Glass mostly good for simple things like viewing SMS messages when they arrive and taking occasional pictures of things.

Once these issues are addressed, the software platform that Glass offers will make a plethora of apps available to do all kinds of incredible things.

For now, save your money, and wait for the next generation to become generally available.

It is not worth it. A lot of places already banning people to wear Google Glass for privacy reasons.

My daughters boyfriend received a pair of the google glasses for free. He works close with google and my daughter is designing apps for them. I'm excited to see how they work but I definitely do not want a pair.

Such these technology like this, requires voices to do capabilities of using google glasses - some of us don't speak?

This is for Deaf people will have CC on google glass to help them to understand what is the hearing speaking about. So the Deaf people will not be miss out the communicate. Computer will have no long in the future. It have a gps, video, camera. It will add the night vision for visual impaired. My husband already have his own google glass for his birthday last Friday. He have to use it for his college. He did let me to try on google glass. It's little weird and not use it to look at small square. It's cool. The technology will get better and improve in the future. The cost worth is $1,500 plus tax. I'm sure Deaf people will get discount the price to purchase a google glass.

That is good point. IMO the Sex offender and ex convict can't buy google glass with judge's order them to not use Facebook, Twitter, hangout, google circle with porn pictures and video.

I'm not confident on using the google glass. It still needs a lot of tweaking before it can be efficient. It's not 100% deaf friendly at this point.

Just wait until we will see. The google glass will be friendly for Deaf and visual impaired.

Visual impaired!?

What would it benefit them if they can't see through glass? :|

Is there a camera? Could that camera be used for alerting via a spoken message? Or could a camera in it help with more complicated correction than other things can give to those that have impaired vision but are not completely blind?

I can see something like this used in movie theater as long the recording feature is disabled and glasses locked via app for movie use only.

Our local movie theaters uses closed caption glasses but it is huge and sometime our nose get sore with the weight pressing against it after watching two hours movie.

The con with google glasses that is so small which it can easily get stolen unless it have a GPS capability allowing them to track it down to try to recover it.

The current movie theater glasses could get stolen but it worthless because it specific programmed for the system to be use in theater while Google glasses can be use for anything as long there an app for it.

It is my idea for new google glass with full lenses instead of small square on the right eye. I think it need to add full. I believe that technology will get improve in few years later. The first google glass is small and will be expand the size. That is why google company will be increase the invent of technology in the future.

I did try on CC glass at theater and cinema for experienced. I didn't like it. Because it's heavy, uncomfortable to my nose and ears. I'm not impressed with cinema CC glass for Deaf and Hoh people. I prefer the lightweight and comfortable. I would rather stay at home and watch blu Ray DVD movies with CC.

This is for usher syndromes not totally blinds.
