Does anyone happen to have Nextalk 7.1a stored in their HDD (computer/Hard Disk Drive) before it was shutdown? If so then please let me know so i can make a torrent file for everyone to download.

LMK!

I had one for longest time then I deleted it recently not knowing that it wasn't available when I went back to download it again. :(

Before the download option disappeared, it wasn't working for me which was why I deleted it and was going to download it again.

Hoping someone has it.

Yeah.. I should have torrent it a long time ago -- common sense here. If you have it somewhere in your HDD and you're able to salvage it, let me know. I am just being hopeful here.

Only if the program works. I downloaded it twice after the FCC shut down. It worked for me for awhile to make a TDD call. Then 2 or 3 months ago it seemed to stop working. I wasn't able to make TDD calls on it anymore. Deleted it then downloaded it and again same thing so I deleted it for good then thought I'd go try it again to find it gone.

Even if you found someone having one, I doubt it would work. Maybe it's just on my end. I don't know.

I was able to make calls just fine after it got shut down. It won't work with TLS relay service on Nextalk, only direct TTY/TDD calls.

For the love of God, someone must have the package here.

That software is outdated. It only goes up to windows 98SE. Not sure if it will work with the updated technology of today?

You can run the program in compatibility mode. That should work.. hopefully. Heh.

I shouldn't have deleted the program; too important to make SS calls. Talking to a hearing rep over the phone just screw things up.

SIGH! FCC is so ****ing retarded.

I agree. That was the only reason I wanted Nextalk back is to call SS. Exactly! I had no choice but to use text relay to call SS. It went ok except I wasn't crazy about giving the relay my personal info. My identity was stolen few years ago and I often wonder if it's the relay because I use them a lot.

They won't get certification from FCC. That why nextalk software still stop operating service.

More likely a keylogger (virus) on your computer did this.

I might program a TTY/TDD interface for PC/Linux via C/C++ (yes, I know how to program in C) and then I can compile for beta testing.

It is really necessary to have FCC involved, why? How to get 10 digit local number? These has to go though FCC regulations in order to get 10 digit local number. There is no way around FCC.

The main reason for FCC requiring registration is to prevent repeat of fraud that FCC have experienced and was victim of fraud. FCC have no problem provide 10 digit local number to QUALIFIED Deaf and HoH users, but the problem is how to prove? It is time consuming and with TTY only, it is difficult to prove the application is qualified for.

I forgot about this til now. I remember back then when I work for VRS, and I used to take application and send to sales for application that wants our service. Used to be that application must put checkmark in a box that application is declared legally Deaf or HoH and can not use standard telephone equipment, now that checkmark is no longer enough for FCC, FCC don't honor that anymore, must be able to prove. For VRS, it is fairly easy, because application is now required call their default VRS provider proving that they are deaf/HOH and must display drivers license so that FCC can cross check for legitimate application.

TTY/TDD apps will be open source so everyone is more than welcome to add any codes to it.

You only have to adhere to FCC policy if you're receiving funds from FCC. As for the phone number, I guess username/password should suffice. All in honestly, we don't need FCC to regulate phone numbers; look at email address - how're they any different? Emails aren't being regulated by FCC and Gmail/Yahoo/MSN/Hotmail aren't getting paid by FCC either.

You get the gist. The government is too big to fail.

I understand your frustration, what FCC saw was working is taking away Nextalk with 10 digit local number, that is how they end the service with result significant reduction of scammers faking being deaf and stealing banks. It was once common thing, now scammer can't fake anything. You see, this is reason why FCC was involved.

I am not against you, I am actually the opposite. I support you 100% as long as you are legitimate user and have no intention to scam anyone. I hope FCC finds good solution and return nextalk back in service.

It's been so long that I doubt it will be back.
