This is exciting news....

First fully-integrated 'Made for iPhone' hearing aids are set to hit the market

Hearing-impaired iPhone owners will soon have a smaller, more compact choice for handset-connected hearing aids as the first batch of "Made for iPhone" hearing aids are poised to roll out without the need for intermediary transmitters.

A step forward for sure... I'd like an App for iPhone/Android that will let me adjust levels etc....
I'm surprised it has been this long in coming..... But having said that, HA's are Medical Devices... how much tinkering with sound levels are programmable Apps allowed to do? Interesting Legal ground here..

More stuff behind your ear

I'm not surprised that Bluetooth communication between an iPhone and an aid can be built into the hearing aid - and not into a "box" that hangs around my neck. I'm ready.

Computer chips are now designed at the 14nm limit - a nm is one billionth (10 to the minus 9 meter). My aids are 1/2 filled with a battery that lasts 7 days - and I need a on/off-volume switch big enough for my fingers to operate. The rest of the space could hold all the circuitry needed for the aid and the Bluetooth - and probably a TV set with an AM/FM radio thrown in….

I once repaired radios and TVs - back in the days of tubes. Vacuum tubes were the size of a Johnsonville Bratwurst --- they heated up, took lots of power, and they burned out. It has been fascinating to watch (in my lifetime) the move to transistors and then to integrated circuits. Now, nothing much amazes me any more, and I just accept the next new thing …..

Bring it on ….

I'd love a built-in FM radio in my HA's..... For one thing it'd stop me from getting bored at work :)

HAs that connect to my iphone would be so awesome! I hate that it doesn't work for all bluetooth HAs though. I mean, I can't exactly just stop using the perfectly good HAs I have and buy expensive new ones that connect to my iphone. :(

Could but some of us like androids over iPhone. Not sure if I want to make the leap to an iPhone. BUT if my iPad can talk to my hearing aids... I can do that.. :D
