Okay, so I've bought a DVD at second hand store - Beauty Shop,
it said on the cover it has both CC and a subtitles,
bit when I tried to watch the movie it had neither!

I double checked the setting on both the TV and the DVD player - everything was turned on as it supposed to be, so what the heck??

Is it possible I bought a pirate copy, because the picture on the dvd copy was made of paper, not printed directly on ?

I mean like, this here:
http://www.cfrbeziers.com/stickers/Beauty_shop.jpg

I don't know what the original copy looks like anyway, but suppose the picture should be printed on directly on the disc.
None of my other discs have covers papered on.

So, what do you guys think - sometimes 'they' just lie, or it's a scalped copy, or...???

First of all, it could be pirate copy but sometime like Block Buster make copies of DVD and the DVD copy machine sometime stripped out the CC codec and the subtitle file. That was long time ago and BB fixed it. So, there maybe many copies of DVD out there that had been stripped out.

I forgot one thing to add: If you have computer with DVD drive, you can try play it from your computer and turn on the subtitle and see if that show up.

If you try it on computer and you are running Windows Media Player (which I'm using now, since I don't have MacBook Pro with me), you can set two options of either turning on the CC or use the subtitle. First picture show turning on CC and second picture show turning on subtitle.

If neither work, then it's obviously it's duplicated DVD (or pirate copy).

Oh, thank you!,

I gave the movie to my friend since I figured it's no use to me,
she's on holiday now for two more weeks
but when she will come back and I will remember, I will take it back just to check if the computer version works.

Many thanks guys, at least I will know this for future references.

*gasp* I thought you are IT and you don't use screenshot but mobile?

What of the title of the movie? Often foreign made movies or movies with foreign distributors don't have cc. Sometimes Spanish CC but not English CC.

ALT + PRTSCRN===> Screen shot is what I am guessing he is trying to do... ?? :dunno:

Pressing PRTSCRN by itself works fine if you want to capture the sub menu/right click menu- I did that just now...

Pressing alt + prtscrn makes it disappear.

I forgot to respond to this. Yes I was trying to use ALT - PRTSRN. I can use PRTSRN alone but the problem is that it will capture all 3 screens (I have 3 monitors). ALT-PRTSRN will only capture the active windows. Now if I use PRTSCRN alone and capturing all 3 screens (3 desktops together) then I have to edit it out and crop it only the area I want to show but there's another problem.... the lettering or texts will become all pixelated (depending on the size of the font itself). If I have only 2 monitors, it wouldn't be too bad and readable. If only one monitors, it will be perfect for screen capture.
I will have to spend more time adjusting the screen resolution, or the font size and such... I mean...hell with it.... take a picture and send it...presto! 5 seconds...

ADDED: Here's the quick example for using PRTSCRN key plus editing....

Ahh you have a point with the monitors- that makes sense. There's a few free programs out there that might allow you to capture a screen shot with the menu...It's been a while though since I've found any (or used personally). At work we used one called...ah SnagIt. Really nifty one- came in handy for capturing test results :)

Yes, we use SnagIt at work. Funny thing that I haven't use desktop screen capture for long time here at home and this is my first time to post my screen capture above. In that pix..ugly reading....

Ah! Make sense then. Just unplugged your two monitors to become single monitor then take screenshot without ALT needs. Kidding. Switch to OSX of Linux :) It got clear for 3 monitors without pixel when you chopped it out.

I just learned about SnapIt and it come with video capture which nice but $50? Kind too pricey for that since there is free Snipping tool (picture) and Fraps (video capture)

Fifty bucks? Ouch. Didn't realize that. Too bad I couldn't figure a way to get it from work (I wouldn't do that anyway...)

Sneaker, curious why 3 monitors? i would love to have 2 monitors (not enough room where I am right now so I am using a KVM switch- works pretty good). Almost had 2 at my last job but I was let go before that ever happened.

On third monitor is for work related and need to display all the time (no windows on top of other windows) so I can see what's going on. For other two are for what we all normally do.

Yeah, it's 50 bucks and how often I would use it..pphfff... snipping tools is good enough for home use.

Oh, yeah I would do that by turning off two monitors.... but the icons and settings will clutter all into one monitors...it will be hell of a mess.

Yes that is the main reason we use SnagIt to allow capturing the video. We have geospatial imagery that need to be capture in a certain area and quick and convenience to send e-mail
