GSD students named to superintendent’s Student Advisory Council

RN-T.com - Rome, Georgia news, sports, business, lifestyles, weather, breaking news and more from the Rome News-Tribune.

Brittney Daughtry and Andrew Henderson, students at Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring, are among 53 students from around the state named to the 2009-2010 Student Advisory Council of Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox.

Council members will meet three times throughout the school year to advise Cox on how state policies are having an impact in the classroom. The council will also discuss other education-related issues and will serve as the superintendent's ambassadors in their respective schools.

More than 550 students from 108 districts applied to be a member of the Student Advisory Council by filling out an application and answering essay questions. Students were chosen based on the strength of their essay answers.

The first meeting of the Student Advisory Council will be held Nov. 9 at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Other area students named to the council include Savannah Andersen of Cartersville High, Will Dover of Rockmart High and Ryan McCormack of Ridgeland High.

This is great that GSD students are involved with the program. I believe Kathy Cox the state Superintendent has done more for GSD than any previous state Superintendents have ever done.

I just looked up, they have not picked someone from AASD this year. They had one last year.
