School for the Deaf

Regents narrowly support $100 tuition surcharge | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register

The Council Bluffs school must cut $972,849 in state aid

In addition to the pay cuts and lay offs, the school's plan also includes no summer school, no new textbooks and fewer sign language training for employees. Faculty and staff members no longer will be reimbursed for training and travel.

Superintendent Jeanne Prickett said employees who work with children will not be laid off because doing so would violate the state's mandatory number of school days.

Prickett added that she would take unpaid time off.
