A Watsonville man will be sent to prison for up to eight years for showing his deaf niece pornographic movies two years ago, a judge ruled this week.

There was no physical evidence of the crime that Marck Vasquez, also known as Juan Canseco, was convicted of. Rather, Judge Paul Marigonda based his ruling on the testimony of the niece, who testified for an entire day through sign language interpreters during the non-jury court trial, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Vasquez, who is in his early 30s, also took the stand on his own behalf and denied the allegations, but the judge cited specific details the girl, who is now 12, provided, as well as the her consistency and demeanor in court, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The crime was reported to the Sheriff's Office in May 2008. At that time, detective Krissi Durant arranged to interview the girl, who was 9, with the assistance of a sign language interpreter at a special child-friendly facility in Alameda County.

Vasquez was found guilty of committing a lewd act against the girl and showing her pornographic movies. He will be sentenced Aug. 3.

I do wonder about the testimony of that girl... is it really true?

We know how far some kids will go just because they hate someone else. Even kids lie.

When an adult lies, that's contempt and they can be fined and/or jailed for it.

When a kid lies, does anything happen? Probably not.

Interesting how you mentioned that when a kid lies, does anything happen? It may be true in most situations. Children are children; people know that children may lie, but for adults, it would be considered immature if the adults lied about ..whatever.

I have heard some stories about how children would lie to get adults in trouble and the adults couldn't do anything because if they fought back, they would be placed in jail.
