Disaster drill held for the deaf in Riverside - 4/03/09 - Los Angeles-Southern California-LA Breaking News, Weather, Traffic, Sports - abc7.com
A first-of-its-kind disaster drill was held in Riverside Tuesday at the California School for the Deaf.
The Riverside County Department of Public Health, the California Highway Patrol, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, and the Riverside Police Department conducted the exercise to simulate distribution of medication to members of the deaf community in the event of a chemical or biological attack.
Officials established PODS, or Points Of Dispensing Clinics, where people would go to receive antibiotics or vaccines.
The agencies have conducted similar drills in the past. This was the first one specifically geared toward the deaf community
