Deaf and dumb students destroy school property in violent protest

Deaf and dumb students destroy school property in violent protest :: KanglaOnline ~ Your Gateway

Annoyed over the negligence of the state government in providing upto date education with modern technology the students of the Government Mute and Deaf School at Takyelpat damaged school property worth over Rs. 5 lakhs this afternoon.

The agitation by the students of the school at Takyelpat occurred on the first day of their half yearly examination which started today. The students sudden outburst was related with outdated teaching methods and the state government`s silence over the matter of providing well qualified teachers at the school.

It may be mentioned that the violent agitation at the school was initiated under the supervision of the students union this afternoon as about 200 hundred students of the school carried out a violent demonstration by smashing the school furnitures, two computer sets, one TV set with a disc plate, music studio, group hearing aids and science practical instruments this evening around 4.30 pm.

In the meantime, the mute and deaf students at the school while relating their grievances at the government run school since last many years said that they felt as if the state government had betrayed as the state government had been keeping them in a miserable state in such a high technology world.

They said they could not remain good students like other normal students due to lack of expert and qualified guidance at the school as a result of which quality education could not be brought to their school. The existing teachers at the school failed to communicate properly with the handicap students in the classrooms which was a great deterrent to their education.

Due to the poor education imparted by the unqualified teachers at the school the students were unable to participate in various national level competitions, cocurricular activities and other talent competitions.

They said they would soon apprise the state chief secretary and chairman of the coordination committee for disabilities about the hopeless situation.

The students were finally pacified by the officials of the state social welfare department who rushed to the school and gave their assurance that the demands would be put up before the concerned minister for appropriate action
