News 8 Austin | 24 Hour Local News | LOCAL NEWS
Austin Police Department said a criminal investigation is underway after they arrested a Texas School for the Deaf employee. Shane Flournoy is accused of having an improper relationship with a minor male student. Flournoy has been fired from the school. A school spokesperson said they conducted a background check on Flournoy and he had no record before he was hired. Flournoy was hired as a residential worker last year. The Texas School for the Deaf said the alleged improper relationship did not happen on campus. They added there's no reason to believe Flournoy had an improper relationship with any other TSD student. |

Man charged in deaf-school abuse confessed to being serial predator
APD: Man charged in deaf-school abuse confessed to being serial predator
Shane Flournoy was a dorm supervisor to the Texas School for the Deaf. Flournoy was arrested after he confessed to his preacher that he paid a 15-year-old student to expose himself, and that he had contact with the student. Austin police say that when they went to question Flournoy, he confessed that he is responsible for sexually abusing teenage boys as far back as the 1990s in Houston. A child abuse detective with APD says Flournoy would use his sign language skills to gain confidence of parents and church leaders, in order to gain access to his victims. He also was a church youth group leader, and may have abused mentally disabled adults. Police say they are looking for multiple victims in Houston and Austin. They say Flournoy said the abuse occurred at church and the victim’s homes. |
