Governor O'Malley Swears in Director of the Office of The Deaf and Hard of Hearing; Members of the Maryland Affordable Housing | Politicker MD

Governor Martin O’Malley today swore in Lisa Kornberg as Director for the Governor’s Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and six members to the Maryland Affordable Housing Trust Board of Trustees.

“I am honored to swear in Lisa Kornberg as Director for the Governor’s Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing,” said Governor O’Malley. “Ms. Kornberg brings a wealth of experience to the position and I am confident that the Governor’s Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will continue to provide expertise, access to resources and services and help improve the lives of Maryland’s deaf and hard of hearing citizens under her leadership.”

Ms. Kornberg is the former Division Director for People Encouraging People, Inc. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Ms. Kornberg received her Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Therapy from the University of Maryland and received her Masters of Education in Counseling and Development from George Mason University. She also studied counseling at Gallaudet University. She is a Baltimore City resident.

Governor O’Malley also swore in members to the Maryland Affordable Housing Trust Board of Trustees. The Maryland General Assembly created the Maryland Affordable Housing Trust (MAHT) in 1992 to make affordable housing more available throughout the State of Maryland. The Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees and staffed by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. A portion of the interest generated by title company escrow provides the funding for MAHT.

“Homeownership in our state and in our country is the key to a stronger, growing middle class, and we must do all that we can to protect homeownership throughout Maryland,” said Governor O’Malley. “I am confident that these members will help Marylanders make homeownership a reality through affordable housing options.”

Sounds familiar to me as well. But given that she is an LPCC, I may have been exposed to the name in my studies. Good to see an LPCC in this position, though, as she will undoubtedly take a holistic view instead of focusing on ears and mouths.
