Canada in deaf hockey dog fight
Canada in deaf hockey dog fight - Mississauga.com
It may very well come down to a three-way battle for the gold medal in men's hockey at the 16th Winter Deaflympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Canadian team, which was hand-picked by general manager Roy Hysen and head coach Louie Carnevale, both from Mississauga, opened the championships with a 17-0 win over Germany, followed by a 2-2 tie with Russia yesterday. Finland, which Canada meets on the final day of the tournament on Feb. 10, is currently in first place with a 2-0 record after defeating Sweden 9-2 and Germany 6-3. Canada is currently tied with Russia in second place after Russia defeated the United States 9-6 prior to tying Canada. Canada is the tournament favourite, having won the last two Deaflympics and eight of the last nine international tournaments it has entered. |
