Deaf senior in standoff with police
CANOE -- CNEWS - Canada: Deaf senior in standoff with police
A stone-deaf senior held city police in an eight-hour standoff Monday at a west-end home. Police spokesman Lisa Lammi said a woman called police just after midnight claiming an armed man was inside a home near 154 Street and 103 Avenue. The woman, who had fled the house, claimed the man had pointed a gun at her and threatened her. Police surrounded the home and a standoff ensued. Lammi said negotiations may have taken longer than usual because the octogenarian was severely hard of hearing. “He couldn’t hear instructions, he couldn’t hear anything... because he just couldn’t hear,” she said. Just after 8 a.m., the man was arrested without incident. Both the man and the woman were being questioned by police, who are treating the call as a domestic incident. No charges had been laid as of yesterday afternoon.
