Ski trip to Dolomites "cures" deaf man

http://www.gotravelinsurance.co.uk/p...sp?id=15145993

Many would attest to the health and wellbeing benefits to be gained from a trip to the ski slopes of Europe.

The high-energy sport frequently leaves holidaymakers exhausted after a day whizzing down the mountainsides, but it certainly improves your general fitness levels.

And the adrenaline buzz that accompanies the euphoric feeling of the wind rushing past you, finally tumbling into the crisp snow, must surely be a form of therapy for the mind.

However, few would have thought that a ski trip could dramatically improve their hearing as it proved to for one lucky pensioner.

Derek Glover, 72, from Lincolnshire in the UK, had been deaf for 15 years when he went on a skiing holiday in the Italian Dolomites with his family.

He assumed that his gradually worsening condition was a result of his experiences training as a soldier 50 years before, which was also where he learned to ski. Then, 15 years ago he had a hearing aid fitted.

However, descending in an Italian ski lift from 7,000 ft Mr Glover suddenly found he could hear again.

He explained hearing a "loud pop", after which a "wave of sound came rushing into my ears".

Popular resorts and slopes in the Dolomites include Cortina d'Ampezzo, Auronzo di Cadore and Misurina, and the ten national parks in the north Italian range offer spectacular scenery - as well as the chance to spot a wild marmot, steinbock or even a stag.

Interesting. This reminds me of a man who became hearing after having his back popped.
