Woman sentenced for punching an old deaf lady
Woman Sentenced For Punching Deaf Restaurant Patron
Women Fought About Deaf Woman's Companion Dog POSTED: 2:47 pm EDT April 8, 2005 BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- A woman who punched a deaf woman in the face in a dispute about a companion dog was sentenced Friday. A judge sentenced 49-year-old Jeanne Shapiro to 270 days in jail, plus probation for punching Jean Costanza Sala. Sala, 71, went into New York Italian Buffet restaurant in Tamarac accompanied by her companion dog in November 2003. The manager of the restaurant agreed to allow Sala's Sheltie to stay in the restaurant. At that point, Jeanne Shapiro, 49, who was in the restaurant with her mother, became angry when the dog was allowed to stay, saying it made her "sick to her stomach." An argument began between the two women, and continued as they went outside, according to witnesses. Deputies said Sala was trying to explain to Shapiro that she relies on her dog because she is deaf, when suddenly Shapiro punched her in the mouth with a closed fist, splitting Sala's lip open. In March, Shapiro was convicted of battery on a person over 65, a third-degree felony. She could have faced up to five years in prison. |

I told my mom about the news above and she laughed.
And then she show me this on the newspaper See here... another similar situation.... Teacher gets time out after attack DALLAS - A teacher allegedly unhappy over the treatment of her daughter was charged with assault for allegedly grabbing another teacher's hair, dragging her across a classroom and punching her in the face. Pauline Baines, a high school teacher, was angry because middle school teacher Mary Oliver had told Baines's daughter, an 8th grader, to quit loitering by lockers and go to class, Dallas school district spokesman Donald Claxton said. Baines, 45, was charged Friday with assault with bodily injury and freed on $2,500 bail; she was placed on paid administrative leave.

Here the whole story...
Police: Teacher Starts Brawl in Class The Associated Press DALLAS - A high school teacher faces an assault charge after police say she walked into a middle-school classroom, grabbed that teacher's hair, yanked her out of her chair, and dragged her across the room while punching her in the face and kicking her. According to the police report, Paulette Baines grabbed Mary Oliver in front of the class full of gifted students Friday. Baines was angry because Oliver told her daughter to quit loitering by lockers and go to class, Dallas school district spokesman Donald Claxton said. Oliver said Baines was yelling at her as she entered the classroom. "I want you to know I didn't raise a finger. I didn't raise my voice. I didn't do anything to aggravate the situation," Oliver said. "I did everything possible to defuse the situation." Baines was charged with assault with bodily injury, according to Dallas County Jail records. Baines, 45, was released early Saturday after posting $2,500 bail, a jail official said. Baines, who was placed on paid administrative leave, did not immediately return a call seeking comment placed by The Associated Press on Monday. Oliver, who teaches seventh-grade science at a Dallas school for gifted students, said she had bruises on her face, a concussion and two broken ribs. The incident happened after Oliver talked to Baines' daughter and several other students about going to class. Students are not allowed to be at their lockers during class time, Claxton said. Oliver said she did not single out Baines' daughter, an eighth-grader. The girl went to the school counselor, who called Baines to tell her what had happened, Claxton said. http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0405/218354.html

The law required all businesses to allow blindness and deaf people bring dog in the businesses. Yes I know it not really safe to have dog in restrauart but as long the dogs are trained they should be fine. I have seen some people bring dogs to businesses, One I knew that bring dog to WORK which is blind and other person (assume blind as well) brought the dog into cici pizza place when my brother and I went there to eat. |

![]() Though the real reason why dogs or any animals are not allowed in restaurants is due to their fur shredding which can get into people's food which is unhealthy. But as long a dog remain calm, it's fine. Most dogs will run around and shake their bodies causing their fur to shred into the air and land into the food. It's just a health regulation. |
