Cops negotiate with deaf man

Wish this was the norm rather then newsworthy. Seems usually these type of stories are about over use of force. Glad this was published hopefully other law enforcement will read and realize this as a better negotiation tactic.

If the cop or the negotiator can communicate with him in ASL so that he can understand what they say. If a cop or negotiator don't know ASL, then there is no way to communciate him as long as if he had a computer or smartphone for texts. If the suspect don't have those devices, then they are stuck and will have to find someone who is an ASL interpreter.

I don't think in the news that there were any ASL interpreter to sign to him. :hmm:

I got it off from another thread that is the same as this.

Yep, there is a ASL interpreter so here it is.

Says Gensler, the suspect and police communicated using by using what’s known as Video Relay Interpreting, with a sign-language translator relaying messages between suspect and officers.
