There's a Deaf Chat Coffee at a Starbucks location in Plano, TX during the first Friday of each month.
I think it's Coit and Spring Creek. There's also an all-day event called Deaf Celebration that's taking place tomorrow from 9 am to midnight. It's at the Plano Center across the street from Collin County Community College at Spring Creek and Jupiter.

Some teachers don't want to count Deaf Chat Coffee and some teachers do. I don't think it really cares, as long as there's variety. There's nothing wrong with going to a Deaf Happy Hour once, a Deaf Chat Coffee once, and something else. I prefer Deaf Chat Coffee over Deaf Happy Hour. At DCC, the worse anyone can do is drink too much coffee. With DHH, you're more likely to deal with drunk people. Perhaps, that's what the teachers want the ASL students to experience... the embarrassment that deaf people put themselves through when they're drunk?

As to answer the original question, if you are at Quad C the deaf coffe does NOT count. Neither does going to the same thing multiple times, with the exception of the Deaf Action Center. You can go there as many times as you want and write about it. I have been twice. It's basically a senior citizen center for deaf people. It's not bad. I have enjoyed it. Cingo is this Saturday at the DAD and I know there are a lot of ASL 1 students from Quad C going! Hope this helps. |
