CSDR getting a bunch of love!

iDeafNews

Much thanks to the poster who originally linked to this. I thought it deserved its own thread.

I think this video was done wonderfully and captures the true essence of a deaf school.

You can see it with what the students are saying! Amazing stuff.

Thoughts?

Great video and shows that the kids are very engaged in learning not just sitting there passively.

One student said "100% access to communication"

Yep..cant get that at oral or mainstreamed programs.

First of all, nice job, seth.

I got a chance to see who bummy was. I heard some time about bummy while I was in college with those california kids were talking about. Most of them have good leadership when it comes to the acitivities. I am happy for riverside school that still runs for years where deaf kids get chance of accessing to the full communication and be more aware of life.

i think CSDR is a beautiful school. after watching this video, it made me regret not going to a deaf school when i was growing up. i like seeing deaf people going to a deaf school, because i know they will never feel left out or lost. that's the great thing about deaf schools- no communication barriers, easy to make friends, more involvement with the deaf community

yep, my current school has been changed a lot and more welcoming more for the hearing disabled people since lots of deaf kids go to hearing school or mainstreaming school. last time I am told, there have no deaf teachers but deaf teacher aides. =/ i know that the adminstration mangagment runs by hearing people though.

I love it when the students stated that "CSDR is Champ" The students interviewed all love their school.

I love FSDB. It gave me so may opportunities during high school that I would not have recieved in mainstream school.

Deaf Schools with ASL teachers are the best for Deaf children.

I asked a few people about this video seeing that they were mainstreamed - one of the interesting replies was:

"wow, they give all range of skills to learn from, in the mainstream you don't get to learn automotive technology, welding, etc on campus. usually you would have to go elsewhere to learn that stuff."

I never thought of that because I was a deaf school student.

Because there is nothing negative about the Deaf school, no mention of CI users, nor mention of oralism.

Exactly. It's like I told you - They would never respond to these things, like it never existed But I bet you.. "Oh I didnt see" "Oh! I was supposed to respond?" Then it turns into a "Its your fault" thing..

But hey, at least we got this out there.

Nice video. I am happy for them but CSDR is not for every one. I went there for few years and I hated it but that was back in 70's. I am hoping the education there today is much improvement than when I was there. I did not learn at all there.
