Becoming an Interpreter for the Deaf
Hello everyone!
I was wondering if anyone living in Canada could give me some information about universities that offer programs on becoming an ASL Interpreter. I am a 17 year old male and am at the point in my life where I need to make a serious career choice. After attending an ASL Interpreter recruitment seminar, I determined that becoming an Interpreter sounded like a very rewarding career. I was also told there is a shortage of interpreters in Canada, and they were looking for more of them, especially males, as they said the occupation is normally dominated by females. I live in central Canada, but am willing to travel out of province for my education. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could provide even some basic information about this career, or what university I could attend for it. Also, I am a hearing individual, but have very basic ASL signing skills. Thanks! |

Hopefully the last reply helped you out a lot! I know Capilano College and Vancouver Community College offer excellent programs. What did you find on Universities?! What city do you live near currently?
