Wrong reasons for being a teacher:
1) Money.
2) You love kids.
3) You like the schedule of teaching (especially the summers off) - warning: the schedule is a trick. Good teachers have no time off.
4) You enjoy the subject area.

Right reasons for becoming a teacher?

1) Passion for teaching is a must. Either you have it or you don't.
2) Willingness to give everything you have for one small success without any recognition

Have you been reading any of the education threads? They explain why you are going to need luck, as well as a thick skin, a strong resolve, and the ability to face adversity on a daily basis without loosing your mind. Not to mention being overworked, over stressed, overwhelmed, and underappreciated.

Where have you taught? Loving kids is good, but not a good reason for becoming a teacher.

Totally agree with Jillio when says good luck cos you really gonna need it as you will find the real experience of actually teaching in a class is really different from what u are learning at University as they only just scratch the surface.

I found it to be so totally different to what i learnt at University didnt really prepared for the hard slog and ending up soo deep but got thru it with passion and determination and support from one or two staff members so Good luck again

Agreed. Most newly certified teachers hit that classroom the first year after graduation, and the first reaction is "OMG! I have no idea what is going on here." Student teaching requirements help some, but being in that classroom with 30+ students all on your own is overwhelming at times. Add to that the parents and the adminsitration, and it can be mind boggling.

That was how I reacted in my very first classroom with 3 students. Before anyone says that 3 students sounds like a piece of cake...not when they are 4 and 5 years old with no language, have serious emotional and behavioral disorders, have austism, and were always eloping from class. I had no idea what to do!

Like everyone else says..good luck with teaching. A good support system from the administrators and other teachers is very very vital to anyone surviving this career. I think I am burnt out cuz I didnt have a good support system with my aide being absent for more than half of the year and my boss being overwhelmed with other issues to help out much. My boss is really nice but I miss my orginal boss..he always took action for his staff. This boss gets too overwhelmed with everything and has trouble with time management which left many of us without support. I just found out that I will have a better aide this year and I will team teach with a good friend of mine so I think I will have a better year this year than I did in the last 2 years.

Can you tell me when u says Team teaching are you saying the two classes are joined together of all the same age or range of their levels.

I have just been trialling this Team teaching thingy this year with a Hearing Teacher who has a new entrant students and two other students who are in y2 and y3 equalivent to grade 2 and 3 in your country and mixing them with my y5 and 6 students and finding it a real nightmare because this teacher just cant cope with all of them together as she unable to plan for all needs so it ended up with me doing most of all the work thus feeling stressed out as plannign for 12 students altogether so I simply cant wait for the end of the year as I will be saying NO more to this kind of Team Teaching unless i have the same age group but not matter about their levels cos it just too hard trying to entertain the little ones and the older ones kept missing out.

Tell me more about ur view on Team Teaching. Would love to hear about it.
Sorry it off topic but you brought up a topic that really got my attention there.
